With this or a future version I'd like to have precision trimming (or similar) for in and out points in generator/title dropzone wells. I'd also like to have compound clips show like secondary timelines in the main timeline or have the ability to do so - so I can adjust elements within them without leaving the main timeline.

And a jetpack.

This is high on my list, as of late, Robert.

I rather like the way Avid allows you to reveal a nested sequence to edit the stuff contained within the context of the parent sequence. I would love to see this same kind of ability in FCP.

The complexity of builds that I've been doing for clients lately has required more and more compound clips, within compound clips. Efficiency would go through the roof if we could adjust elements the way you're suggesting

Following on from last week's cheeky Godot reference to waiting for the next upgrade, this week I give you Kafka:

Sums up how I feel about the next update..It feels as if it is never going to be published..End of May, almost, and no update, either Apple has no love for FCPX, or the update was so buggy it had to be pulled and repaired!!

I have given up caring about the next update, it may or may not come.

Why just those 2 options to choose from? How about any of these...

1. Apple cares a great deal about FCPX and they didn't plan for an update before WWDC

2. The next FCPX update will push the next Mac Pro, but Apple isn't ready to release the new Mac Pro updates so FCPX is on hold.

3. The next FCPX update is intended to show off new Macbook Pro's at or after WWDC.

We've waited longer for updates. Why should this one come any sooner?

For my part I was only trying to be amusing :-)

I *do* have a little impatience this time but I know exactly why that is. It's because I didn't get to see the NDA Apple show when you were all flying around in FCPX hover cars and jet packs with 360 3D VR surround-o-vision. ;-p

Trust me, it was like only 2 things, and nothing anyone is holding their breath to see any time soon. No one saw a full upgraded version. Just 2 neat new tricks, and that was it, and we won't see them any time soon. So just forget the FCP Exchange event for now. Nothing to see here folks, just move along, ignore the man behind the curtain...

I was referring to Justine, that we've waited a bit longer for previous updates, so there's no logic or evidence to jump to any conclusions about why this next one hasn't been released yet. For all we know Apple hasn't even made plans for the next release yet. Could it be so buggy it had to be trashed and redone? Nope, that's not how software development works. Could it be this next update will be HUGE? I doubt it, we've not had a really drastic, gargantuan update before. They come too often for that.

Then again, could it be for some reason none of us has any clue about, no evidence for, and no logic or history to base a conclusion on? Most likely...

Between now and the next update, I'll be too busy working, so I can support my wife and kids seriously obsessive fishing habit... (sigh), to worry about software updates. Way more important things than an app update concern me at the moment. Gotta pick out a new fishing reel... tough decisions...

Siri search wouldn't be much use to me - I can type faster than a siri search. What WOULD be useful is using Siri to analyse audio. Handy for transcription but more specifically to search for certain comments in a clips audio (to mark take number, good take, etc). Wilder speculation still but one thing that would be very handy would be for it to recognise when dialogue starts (such as an interview) and then make a temp cut a designated number of frames before that frame - and after it ends. So when it recognises the word 'action' in the dialogue track it blades a cut 5 frames after - and 5 frames before it recognises 'cut' Save a ton of time.

I shoot a lot as well so it would save time if you could give meta data tags verbally that siri would recognise and store - perhaps with a code word. So before a shot I'd say 'METATAG - scene 1, shot 1, Wide, take 1' and it would populate the relevant fields in FCPX.

The G-word.

Is it a generic, existing word in the dictionary that is used by Apple to describe a new feature/mode/enhancement/addition to FCPX, or an Apple-created word for marketing purposes?

For example, if someone got a sneak peak at iPhone 4's Retina display, saying it's a "H-word" (High DPI) would be an existing word, because convention supports it describing high density displays. Saying it's a "R-word" (Retina) would be an Apple marketing word - because while the word "Retina" has long been used by people, it is not conventionally used to describe high density displays.

Which one is it? An existing word or a marketing word?

For what was demoed on NAB? Existing word.
For what will be the 'buzz-word' for next version? Existing word either....
