3 Post Moderation Rule for New Boarders (25 Jan 2021)
New boarders will have their posts moderated - Don't worry if you cannot see your post immediately.
10.2.3 (or 10.3) waiting :)
Clips in the Event Browser do accept effects. Just right click a clip in the Event Browser and select "Open in Timeline".
You will see the whole clip in a timeline and you can add any effect you like.
Close the timeline by clicking the back-arrow in the top left of the timeline to return to the project timeline.
When you place any portion of the modified clip in your project, it will have the effects present.

I would still like to see them in the inspector, like when you attach them to clips in a timeline.
That would really streamline preparing a cut.
And working with others you could easily forget there is some effect within a clip timeline.

Give the compound clip a descriptive name, for instance "NameOfClip_with_ColorCorrection".
Open the Compound Clip in its timeline, apply the effect (Color Correction in this example).
Now it will be obvious that you have a color correction applied, because every instance of the Compound Clip will have the addition "ColorCorrection" in its name.
The added benefit with Compound Clips is that when you change the effect settings for the Compound Clip in its timeline, these changes will be automatically ripple through all the instances of that Compound Clip that have already been edited into your project.
If you want to treat a certain instance differently, you can rightclick that instance in the timeline and select in the menu "Clip>Reference New Parent Clip".
This will generate a copy of the Compound Clip that can be treated with a different effect, without affecting the other instances.

I could also just rename the clip if I´m that certain that the effect is really important for that clip, or I could make a subrole or add a keyword.
One of the things I like most within FCPX and one of the biggest reasons why I chose it over the alternatives is the way media preparation and organization is possible.
It would just be intuitive, easy and fast.

Way more powerful and flexible than anything in FCP7.
Cmd-D is an option.
Still easier and more flexible than in 7.

This is totally not about "I want my FCP 7 back"and open in timeline is ecrtainly a valuable feature.
I was even reluctant mentioning FCP 7 at all just not not trigger the comparisons.
I didn´t really use it in FCP 7 and if remember right there was something confusing about ist.
I originally had the thought working in Avid many years ago.
I like the idea of working with all the assets in the event browser and preparing a lot.
And of course there are always a lot of ways achieving something.
Let me rephrase this:
So you think there would be no benefits directly attaching effects to clips in the event browser then visible in the inspector?

I am with Nils on this one. Badly needed feature. Apply effects to multiple clips in the event browser at once. Open in timeline is but a time consuming workaround. Is on my feedback list since day one!

The Open in Timeline feature is amazing, and unique to FCP X. But you cannot do any batch operations with Open in Timeline, you have to open clips one by one (which is obvious).
It would be very useful to be able to apply a filter or effect to multiple clips in the Browser at once, without having to open each clip in its own timeline.

I'd like to be able to assign effects via keywords or even smart collections. I'm sure many of us select a clip apply a grade and/or effects then copy/paste down the timeline, how about instead you simply either copy/paste onto the Keyword or drag the effect preset from the presets window. The effect would be be copied across all of the Keyword group in the browser with an option to update clips on the timeline too. You could then adjust the grade/effects on a clip by clip basis in the timeline.
You could get as granular as you like with grouping e.g. maybe you need to assign a slightly different effect preset to 2 different cameras or different white balance values, you're only limited by how you've organised your keyword collections. This would also mean global changes to effects or grades would be easy.

Why wouldn't they? I mean I don't think that they will release anything today, but I don't think Apple would care that it's the last day of NAB. They are not even officially involved in the event.

opacity control on gap clips...That is create a gap clip that is a gap clip with zero color, at the moment gap clips are 100% video black, why no opacity open to make it see through?
If you make a multi-cam clip, then blade a section on one of the angles, then shift delete, a gap clip is created, the problem is that the 1st angle has priority, if you have see through zero opacity gap clip, then the next video angle will show through the window so to speak of the invisible gap clip!
The idea is to take multi-cam clips from just being multi-cam and into next gen multi-cam, as mini projects internally of the multi-cam, if you have audio, all audio angles playback, you can set them to left right, center, stereo, mono, surround.
Yet when it comes to video only 1 angle plays so you see it, other video angles are hidden, but with invisible or zero opacity they should play through, but it does not!!
