Ok, so I got here late thanks to traffic. And a fire. And the monorail broke down. BUT, everyone has signed an NDA from Apple. The reason is? Major new release coming.

I'm going to be here tomorrow to actually see the event. I'll sign an NDA and won't be able to say anything. All I can say now is I hear people clapping inside. It's packed. No more room and people are waiting with sad faces outside.

Ok ok, maybe not a major new version. I don't think it's v11. Probably 10.3, but I know there is "major new 'stuff' being shown. If you're not here tomorrow to see, you're out of luck until it's out!

I give the whole presentation a definite 15. Overwhelmingly about how folks have dealt with complex protect workflow and stuff and junk. New features? What new features? New version? Don't know anything about that.

Thanks, that was not the one I was looking for, if I understand ibooks correctly, it says read, so I am assuming I already have it somewhere on my laptop. There is no ebook/pdf for 10.2 series FCPX?

So I guess it doesn't sound like anything will be released, or even revealed/demo'ed (outside of the room) any time soon...I suppose not even a general ETA with zero further explanation until the actual release...

Of course it will be shown soon. Apple shows it to a full room, they want to create an hype around it. They know that everybody will know soon, the NDA somehow prevents any article and official comments.

The wait is over.

Not at NAB, not seen/heard anything. Here are some of my speculations based only on publicly available info. May be last opportunity before things leak.

New versions of FCPX 10.3, Motion 5.3. Compressor and hopefully Logic later.
FCPX and Motion will require El Capitan. Have seen last update for 10.2.X & 5.2.X
New and improved AV Foundation frameworks integration and APIs.
New Library structure allowing multiple splits in Library resources. Can share portions of Libraries allowing you to send to multiple editors. Possibly shared concurrent editing on same library/project.
Even easier to share resources and move/copy/send to others. This will include off site utilizing a new version of Messages/Mail Drop with protected internet connections. Will be in "Share" destination; Session. Sharing Sessions multiple editors will be the greatest new feature.

New audio features including Roles based mixer inside FCPX.
Greater "Extensions" with Logic and Motion allowing you to do more without leaving FCPX.
Along with Audio Roles based mixing, the ability to link to channel fader/channel effects. Master and sub Master faders. (This code already exists in frameworks, not sure why Apple hasn't pulled trigger)

New 3D features allowing vector based graphic files in FCPX and Motion. Most likely not be full 3D, but would be nice. New DOF and focus abilities and automation.
New morphing abilities and controls with improved optical flow. No need to export and import for morphs.
May have new facial/object morphing abilities for selected areas of frame.
Utilize "Metal" for new 3D texturing and vid redraws.

Updated XML hopefully more fully unified between ProApps. This will allow "Send to Motion/Logic and back". This feature may or may not depend/utilize XML and may instead use the new shared resource attributes inside AV Foundation. Would also apply to multiple editors.
Improved Time Code.
New enhanced CC time based automations.
Improved automation overall.

Object motion tracking with object identification inside FCPX, much like Track X. FCPX will allow you to draw a simple mask or click on an object and FCPX/Motion will then isolate the object via movement in adjacent frames. Simple and quick. This will also enhance compositing and rotoscoping.

New iOS FCPX remote app that you can control automation, mixers, color corrections, masks, effects and more via multi-touch on an iPad. Touch selection or draw (via finger or Pencil) in view screen. Browser pane and info pane interface. Ability to move things like sliders via touch. Create object/text paths via touch draw.

New improved compression algorithms.

Ability to add shape and color masks from both inside the Color Board or in Color Effects general pane, no more applying "Add Correction" then having to back out to select a shape or color mask. Keyboard shortcuts assigned to "Add Correction" > "Shape/Color Mask".

New camera support. Support for up to 8K resolution and export.
3D Force Touch added to various UI parts of ProApps. (For those of you with new Trackpads/iPads)

There's more, but my 60s flash back trip is wearing off. :silly:
Off to do some music recording…
Happy hallucinating/dreaming/editing everyone. See you on the other side of NAB
Greg

Here's what I've seen on day 1 of NAB Show, that I can talk about.

Various vendors and products such as Keyflow Pro, LumaForge, Quantum, Replay, etc, are handling shared collaboration, lots being demo'ed.
Xsend from Automatic Duck handles round trip between FCPX and Motion, and really super well.
The folks who edited Focus and WTF on FCPX are about to start their third film with FCPX.
FCPX already does some amazing things, and future updates will be very worth the wait the dev team is very passionate.
360 VR is the next big thing, and FCPX does it better than anything.
The universe is in perfect order, breath deep, relax, life is good.

BTW, "Metal" was made for 3rd party developers, to help the access the OS X interior resources that Apple's own products already tap in to. So Apple's pro apps already have that power, they don't need to be Metal-ized. Although it would seriously help out Adobe and Avid products on the Mac platform.

Hi Ben
AFAIK X Send to Motion is a one way trip, not a "Round Trip"?? You still have to reimport in FCPX, unlike old Send to Motion which was then automatically updated in FCPX. At least that is what I got from listening to Wes Plate on Episode 13 Final Cut Radio. Do I have this wrong?

And AFAIK apps including Apple's have to be specifically coded to use Metal. Since lots of Apple Mac team is there, will you ask. I have been exploring this in the Apple Developer's site and everything I see says you must rewrite to take advantage and I haven't seen anything in Motion or FCPX that does yet. Possible they snuck something in last update, but don't think so, because Metal for Mac is definitely an El Capitan only framework and FCPX and Motion still run on earlier OS versions.

Have fun, Greg

No, apps don't have to be specifically coded to "Metal" to access the system resources that targets. Metal is not a framework, it is an API to access deeper resources more effectively for third party developers. I got this information from an Apple engineer.

I had a little talk with Wes Plate today about the whole "round trip" deal between Motion and FCPX. Previously, when you did a Send To Motion, you had two choices to send back to FCP: export a .mov to import into FCP, or send the Motion project back into FCP sequence. Xsend is basically the same. Either go the QT .mov route, or save as an FCPX template. Same principles.

But, the ways Xsend formats clips from FCPX to Motion, the options, it is amazing. I'm a beta tester, so I agreed not to say too much until he does the official public release. And I know nothing about pricing. But he is very aware the if it isn't priced right, it won't sell enough to be worth while. Simply from his tone, I'm not worried about Xsend being too expensive.
