Final Cut Pro X and Yosemite
I also noticed that Yosemite had reassigned user permissions to all the mObject related generators and titles, assigning them to another user on my system. I also went in and reset all of those (easiest way is to go back to the Motion Templates folder, get info, make sure the permissions are correctly set, then click the dropdown gear menu and Apply to Enclosed Items.)
I had a service ticket in with MotionVFX and this is what they sent back:
“
This is related with the fact that FxPlug3-based plugins need to be registered within the OS X so upgrading it most likely cleared its settings. You can go around this by re-installing mObject or simply launching its plugin app once
(Library > Plug-Ins > FxPlug > mObjectGenerator.app - it will close immediately).
After that the system will recognize it as a previously registered plugin and everything will be fine.
”
So whatever FxPlug plugin software you've installed, give that a try and see if it solves your issues.

Select a bunch of clips. Go to MODIFY -> Apply Custom Name -> Edit...
In the window enter in the name you want to use then click ok.
For me a whole bunch of the dialogue window disappears then the spinning beachball of death and then CRASH.
Anyone else?

It might be unfair to point the finger at Yosemite though as I'm beginning to suspect a hardware issue. In any event, I could edit in Mavericks and can't in Yosemite.

I have yet to upgrade to yosemite so i have a question about using multiple monitors with FCPX......
Does Yosemite remember how you had your FCPX windows spread out after it wakes from sleep?
I know i can choose to use 2 menu bars (spaces) for each screen but i don't want to because with 1080 vertical resolution i want make use of many vertical pixels as possible.
So will it remember my layout or will it group all the windows back on the monitor with the menu bar?
regards
Richard

It remembers everything just fine.
I drag the whole window to my second monitor (the one with no menu) then I hit "Show Events on Secomd Display.
Works a treat.

Hi Seanus,
yes thats the same window layout that i use....so you confirm that in Yosemite, if the computer goes to sleep it will wake up with the FCPX windows laid out in the same positions?
Thanks

The way that you used to do this was to be able to re-install via a cd/dvd apple install disk.
Those days are now long gone. Your best bet would be to get an app called Carbon Copy Cloner, and a cheap 1 gig ext. hard drive and make a "clone" of your OS. It is very easy to use and CCC works the other way too: re-install over Yosemite if need be.
I think they even have a trial version which is actually the regular version, but eventually you have to pay the 40.00(???) for the app.
Go to their site to learn more, but I think this the best way to go.

Not such a stupid question, I am quite frustrated at the way Apple approached this Yosemite OS.. Not having the Mavericks available does not make installing Yosemite appealing!

Not sure why this is happening (my other computers with Maverricks are fine), but other people have encountered this and I've been told the best way to deal with this is doing a clean install. I was hoping I wouldn't have to go through that, but I guess I do. First of all, is there a way to avoid this and then what's the best way for me to do a clean install? Thanks!
I had the same issues with my MBRP. Try a "repair install". Startup with command-R and then install over your existing OS. It will do a repair an might just let you avoid a clean install.
