Certainly has been a very long time (Nearly a year I would argue) since we've had any meaningful interface updates. Not just back end stuff.

I really hope it's because something big is around the corner that was reliant on Yosemite. Not that Apple thinks FCP X is now a mature product that only needs maintenance updates.

I don't know what Apple has coming, but I do know that's not what they think. :-)

All the A/V Foundation improvements outlined by Philip Hodgetts have me very excited. I only hope the updates that leverage those frameworks aren't TOO far away...

10.1 and 10.1.2 were both focused on Media Management- I'm glad they aren't afraid to pull things apart and rethink this far into the development of the software, and I think it bodes well for when they move on to other areas of the application.

New version of iMovie for iOS out yesterday adds iCloud Drive compatibility. That means a version of iMovie for OS X Yosemite is closer…

Yeah I thought looked pretty exciting. Maybe something coming for FCPX?

Seems FCPX and LPX are the only two Apple apps not updated for Yosemite yet...

I like your optimism, but I'm still prepared for a bit of a wait ;)

Can we also use this to determine the average time it takes for Marcus to be able to upgrade to the current version of FCP X?

What about a minor update by the end of the year to fix Yosemite glitches and a bigger step in spring time next year?

And predict how much snow I'm going to get for Christmas, the year of the end-times, and the price of concentrated orange juice this fall. It's pretty packed! ;)

We've had multiple maintenance updates in the past, so that's definitely possible.

A lunatic theory I came up with- we know Apple will be releasing Photos.app early next year. There are also rumors of an iPadPro for a similar timeframe. Maybe we'll see a refresh off all ProApps early next year.

Even I think it's unlikely, but I thought I'd throw it out there.

Is anyone totally confused by my release chart? I'm still trying to find the best way to present the info. But it's basically mapping past release intervals to the most recent release- to give us some boundaries for when we might expect the next update.

Makes sense to me, I think you're probably spot on too.

I think it would be better and more understandable if it were only a stack of old data punch cards, and the raw numbers displayed on a monochrome green CRT. That would be much better...

Or if we used an abacus and parchment...

Was using my iPhone 6 over the weekend taking some beach shots. They needed some editing so I opened up a the controls and started to play. Tools are amazing, but what was more interesting was that with extensibility I had available all the other tools from my other camera apps as well. Right in the Photos App.

Now I know this is what is planned for the Photos App coming soon, but it got me thinking about what might be coming for FCPX.

What if all the controls for Motion were suddenly available in FCPX? All the controls from Photos (for grading). All the controls from Logic Pro X?

Could this be why we are waiting? Could it be tied with the release of the new Photos App?

The jury is out on Extensibility on the Mac- whether it provides any real functional improvements over existing plug-in types.

Its certainly a boon on iOS, where there were no options for inter-app communications before.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
