I actually laughed out loud after I read that. Boy do I remember those days...

I've seen it, though not exactly the same thing. FCPX has shut down on me at least 3 times when editing a 2+ minute segment because it ran out of RAM. I was really pushing it to its limit, making it cry. It told me that the memory was all used up or something to that effect and then quit, saving my progress up to that point. My computer is pretty wimpy and that may be why. Mac Pro 6,1 with 16GB of RAM. Only other programs running were Mail, Skype, Twitter and sometimes Firefox. So FCPX is definitely not immune to memory issues. It needs lots of it especially when you push it as hard as I do. I plan on upgrading to 128GB when I get my allowance from my dad.

About Pre-release :
Don't you think that the ability to choose ProRes 422HQ for Optimize Media would be a great thing for broadcast environment ?
I've a documentary to edit filmed with 5D and if i want to grade the film in resolve i would prefer to have HQ.
I can do it with compressor but done it in FCPX would be great.

Darren Roark wrote: Such a good point, PP is in so many ways so far behind the streamlined yet going back to it for any reason still frustrating mess that is FCP 7. The folks that are still angered by the EOL'ing of FCP7 are really tough to convince that Apple had the best of intentions.

As soon as I heard the initial rumblings of a trackless workflow I said "Yes please!"

After finally getting away from FCP 7, I haven't seen the "Out of Memory" error once. Good riddance.

Ha ha :) no "out of memory" here only sometimes sluggish waveform renderings.

Just got back from the Adobe 2014 Update launch event and there are some cool things which I wish we could have with Motion. PP can update and change AE CC content directly without opening or having the second app open, AE tracker also directly integrated into the NLE.

2nd, also totally agree, I get cold shivers going back to FCP 7, Avid and PP when I need to. Thinking in tracks again is quite a mind shift but I also think it is the interface, really like FCP X.

Regardless of any specific FCPX related announcements, today's Apple Event should be interesting.

Ponponpostprod, hmmm I'm not sure that would work how you are expecting. Optimize media is only useful to make editing run faster. While I get what you're saying about bringing it into Resolve you'd generally be better off grading from the h264 out of the camera. As I understand it all CC operations i resolve and FCP are done floating point so you wouldn't gain any quality from using ProRes HQ transcoded media on the way in, only lose a tiny amount in the transcoding process.

1. FCPX is so slow ( even on the most powerful Mac Pro 2013 )when you have lots of items in the timeline.
When you have a PGM with 8 audio files, you can easily get 1600 editing points on the timeline.
Then you will find the fcpx is so slow, not the realtime performance, but the control, like zoom timeline, etc
With subtitles, and lower thirds, the timeline always has 3000+ items.
You can not bear that slow control !

FCP7/Avid/Flame2015 is fast when you have 3000+ items on the timeline, why FCPX not.
If apple solve this problem, I think fcpx will be the powerful editing tool!

2. Mask tracer like davinci for colour grading!
Now even Quantel has the 3D tracer tool with Mocha, why apple can't ?

3. Unlimited mask points.

4. Better RAM management.
FCPX always use 64GB RAM, when hours editing, you have to reboot fcpx or system
Why should I do this?

5. Clearer In/out point marker , and marker on timeline please.
Now the i/o point marker is on lowest layer clip, the marker is on clip too.
We always use i/o point to export or marker to find something,
can apple make these more easily to identify?

Agreed. I think I'll fall out of my chair though if I hear the words "Final Cut Pro" said from stage.

I aware of this, but isn't it easier to work with prores in Resolve also, like in FCPX, I think so.
If the optimized medias should serve for the both, I would prefer HQ to have the less loses in transcoding process.

In iOS, the iMovie extension can modify movies in the Photos app. It can apply video effects and overlay titles on top of videos shot on your iOS device.

Interesting fact: iMovie for OS X is a full version of Final Cut Pro X with a consumer UI on top.

If iMovie is available as an extension in OS X Mavericks, that'll be a subset of Final Cut Pro X.

Since December 2013, FxPlug 3-based Final Cut plugins have been packaged in their own parent application. This will be useful if these plugins are to be made available in the iMovie/Final Cut Pro X video extension for modifying video clips in OS X Yosemite.

On iOS Extensions provide a clear functional improvement in sharing between applications. On Mac, with it's traditional file system, and existing plug-in architecture, it remains to be seen if Extensions will provide similar advantages.

Interesting that they did show/mention FCPX at a couple of points in today's presentation particularly highlighting the new iMac Retina for editing.

Off topic but where they still showing photo editing in Aperture on the iMac?

I believe they were showing the new Photos app instead of Aperture. There is suppose to be a public beta of the iOS version sometime today.

There's some nice big screenshots of FCPX on the iMac Retina pages. So far I haven't detected any noticeable alterations to the interface.

In Apple presentation this evening, not a single word about Mac Pro or FCPX. I a almost sure that the company will abandon FCPX totally in near future.

People are saying there's still bugs with the final version of Yosemite and the current version of FCPX. Wouldn't be surprised to see a maintenance/compatibility 10.1.4 update later today.

You may not have watched. Specifically they presented the new Retina iMac with FCPX explaining how you could show 4K and still have room for the Browser. In some respects this was probably the most significantly FCPX "acknowledgment" in an Apple "consumer" presentation.
