If anyone's collecting free light leaks here's some more to add to your collection.

It's a sampler, but there's some crackers in there - though not 40. Thanks Timot for that, you put my free leaks to shame
All the best,
Charlie

Although your pic looks a bit intimidating like Terminator with that light, or is it GoogleGlass peering into my soul?

I uploaded to dropbox, let me know if you have any issues.
Here's the link - www.dropbox.com/s/jcy1wdswcdpvyvt/LightFree%21.zip
Also, may I ask what kinds of projects you typically use light leaks on? I'm looking to make really tailored light leak packs that really suite individual types of productions. ie. Weddings vs adventure sports.
Cheers!

Hmm.. light-leaks are a bit of a contentious issue round here. Some think they are overused, perhaps rightly so, but I still think they can add value depending on the situation. Of course they should match the scene, emphasizing some lights that are native to the scene. For instance on a wedding video where we have a soft dream-like fantasy light & color treatment, usually when we see the bride preparing or stepping out into the sun, or as we pan by her in front of a window. In this instance the color of the light should be warm & matching sunlight. Other scenes like candlelight, night clubs, traffic, etc, all can be candidates for this effect. As long as it's not overdone & it matches color-wise.
That being said, your picture is more of a lens flare, which is another effect some think can make lights more interesting, while others protest their overuse (by JJ Abrams, for instance). My philosophy is that all these little additions can be very effective for increasing interest & thus value, however, all things in moderation. Subtlety reigns. Most importantly, content is king, so we start with a great story, deployed expertly, hopefully shoot it well, then the master brushstrokes can be added in post to things like light, sound, color, etc.
Think you're done? Next comes the art of marketing it...

It's great to get honest feedback and thoughts, refreshing stuff.
I agree light leaks can be overused, and if the editors not careful, can feel very heavy handed.
However, I absolutely agree that in scenes where they naturally fit the scene, as per your wedding example, they are going to give the best results hands down. They really work well when they are used with purpose, for example to help promote a feeling, mood and tone, not to cover a bad edit or distract people from a terrible storyline.
As for my user pic, that dodgy looking light streak/flare was caused off the kitchen light behind me, I took the pic in photo booth and thought it looked 'kinda' cool.
I love the Star Trek light leak/streak/flare effect, though as per your light leak comments above, it really has to work in the context of the shot.
It's great to hear from someone who understands light leaks to be a mere ingredient in what it takes to produce great content. The leaks can be brilliant, but they won't be truly effective until considerations of light, colour, sound, edit style, and of course story are also taken into consideration.
Thanks again TrixTrax9000, greatly appreciated.

I saw Star Trek 2 on the weekend and while it has a TON of lens flares, they tended to work for me.
Do you think it's true that all the flares in Star Trek are in camera?
Here's another youtube short that pokes fun at the effect.
"Do you see it coming?!"..."I can't see a god-damn thing!"

I found a good article on the first JJ Star Trek where JJ states it was all live!
The flares weren't just happening from on-camera light sources, they were happening off camera, and that was really the key to it. I want [to create] the sense that, just off camera, something spectacular is happening. There was always a sense of something, and also there is a really cool organic layer thats a quality of it. They were all done live, they weren't added later.
Oh..and he agrees, they kinda look ridiculous.
