Thank you for responding. Let me see if we can get this figured out. If not we can do a Skype chat on monday and we can do a walk through through a screen share.
- There should not be a drop zone parameter with the Effect since the effect is added to the clip itself, usually we only find drop zones in the generators.
- Sorry, I do not understand what you mean by adding the effect to the background. I added the effect to a background and it worked here, so I may be misunderstanding the error. If you could send me a screenshot of your timeline setup I may be able to get a better idea of what you are trying to accomplish.
- The flickering may be caused by the timeline not being rendered or the playback settings may be set to lower quality for better performance or the line may be too thin for your monitor’s resolution. Did you try exporting the video to see if you still get the flicker? If so could you please send me a short export sample.
Please keep me posted, if we can not figure it out here we can set up a Skype screen share on monday to figure this out
thanks for taking the time to go through each one of my questions. I actually sat down and figured it out. It turns out the installer installed an effect and a generator of the template.. I was originally using the generator… once I used the effect all was well… i can see the drop zones to add my clips and manipulate as i see fit
sweet effect, cheers..
Oh, and the flickering was caused b/c of my screen resolution. Im extending my display to a non-retina display. As soon as i bring it back to my retina disp, no more flickering.
WooHoo! I am super happy you got it working.
Yes when I first made this template it was a generator. But after awhile I saw that this had its limitations and that the effect made it much easier to use. I need to update the tutorial to reflect the improvement.
I am very happy you liked it. Please let me know if you have any further questions or requests for future templates and effects. Thank you again for taking the time to reach out. Have an amazing day!
When I'm using the latest effect version of Splitter on my content, everything works alright up to the last couple of frames of my clip, where Splitter just disables itself (that is, the clip just looks like normal again). Note that this problem persists even if I resize my clip or cut it up.
If I just could get it to work fully, I'd say that this is the best splitscreen effect for FCP X there is. It gives me the total amount of control that I want unlike some of your competitors (which, on top of it, cost money).
So, thank you for putting this out there for free!
Hmm... I performed a new test now, and it seems like this problem _maybe_ can be connected to the type of source material you use. I've come across the problem while using material from my Canon HF10, but when I imported mpeg files now, I couldn't replicate the problem (I have the Canon HF10 source material at home so I won't be able to perform more thorough controls until I get home).
I have another question regarding workflow. If you would like to reuse a particular setup, for example a certain boarder width and position, is there any way to do this in a convenient manner (that is, not having to applying the effect and adjust all the parameters every time you want a certain look)?
As I understand it, there is no way in FCP X to either copy and paste effects between clips or to save presets, right? Is my only option to go into motion and create a plethora of duplicates of this effect with different default configurations? That would kinda suck
The best way to do this would be to open the effect in Motion and then Save it as a duplicate with a new name “Splitter_whatever. Customize the new template to your hearts desire, save and then you should see the new version in FCPX.
Please let me know if you need further assistance.
Thank you for your interest in the the splitter effect. I want to apologize in advance for the miscommunication. I updated the effect so it does not use a drop zone anymore as it turned out having a drop zone presented some roadblocks. Originally it did use the Drop Zone but I changed that.
The adjustments should be the same as if it had a drop zone.
I am sorry for the confusing and I am happy you were able to figure it out. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
