Hi, i know i have seen a video of a plugin or template or something where you could draw a line on a map, choose a car and made that car drive on the lines that you made on the map.
i guess you made the map as a background picture.

anyone know what plugin/template/generator this is?

I think it was on youtube that i was watching a tutorial that descibed this, but i cannot find back to it ;)

anyone can help?

best regards
Freddy

hi, thanks for your reply, but this is not the correct video/tutorial.
i´ll take a look at this also, but there was a other one. hmm..

i remember that they used a google map as background, he drawed a line along a road, chosed a car and the direction of the way the car went, then the car followed that line.

i would like to use that in the video of our 7320 km road trip with our caravan through europe ;)

best regards

Super simple.

Place your car image in the Motion project. Apply a Motion Path behavior. It gives you a default horizontal line. Click on it to make more points, move them around, adjust as you need.

You can also draw a shape, and set the behavior's Path Shape to Geometry, drag and drop the shape into the Geometry well.

Either way, use the "Snap Alignment to Motion Path" behavior to make the car turn and align to the path.

Both of these are in the Basic collection of Behaviors.

Also check out my article here that is related. You'll combine both what I wrote here and this article for what I think you're looking for.

Yes, you need Motion, and to learn the basics.

You do really. You could keyframe a graphic of a car over a map in FCPX but it would need to be done fully manually. To make it worse the only part of what we have in FCPX at the moment that is incomplete it's current function is animation. But even when it's finished, in what ever update to come, this is more of a job for a dedicated graphics package than an NLE.

hmm, sounds complicated for a beginner like me. ;)

Are the some where i might can order a finished motion, ready for adding to my video in tcp?

question two: will I need Motion 5 to make a small "video" on top of my other video? sorry for the bad english.. ;) i have a time-lapse video, and while that is running in the background i thought about have a little square window in the corner with the map showing where we are on the trip. is this possible and if so, will i need motion 5 to this also?

thank you ;)

You can do picture in picture effects in FCPX. Just put the time-lapse in the primary storyline and the clip for the little square window above as a connected clip. Then you can scale/position the connected clip to the desired position.

The map isn't really a template thing. It would depend on your journey, so wants to be made specifically for that.

Hopefully you have considered the copyrights for your map background.

If it´s from google earth, you can find the informations for the legal use here:

google permissions

In my Country, (Germany) it´s not easy to find legal maps for use in public videos... :S

Well, it seems to be a solution in this kind of projects, if i add the © 2011 Google in the picture through the video, it will be enough since it is for personal blogging and internet media, not commercial video production.
