If you install early 2008 Mac Pro with 7950 (works like butter) + 5770 (with Y with splitter) running x2 27" displays, would you keep both displays on the 7950?

I'm wondering if the GPUs need to be identical. On paper that seems to be the case. The Barefeats benchmarks were done with matching GPUs. If someone could do tests that would be amazing.

Darren, and everyone else - I'm curious about the more recent Mac Pro's prior to this new one; I saw a lot of different posts at different forums a while back that seemed to say that FCPX (prior to 10.1) did not make noticeable use of multiple video cards, but obviously 10.1 does in a big way. My question is if I install Mavericks on a 12-core 2012 Mac Pro and update FCP to 10.1, is it possible that it would then make a noticeable difference to run two ATI 5770 cards? If so, would I need to use a cross fire connector between the two cards? does anybody know anything about this or has anybody tried this?
