I downloaded and tried out the transition version. It's very interesting. First off, thank you for putting the time and effort into making this and offering it for FREE! It's very appreciated among us in the community.
Now to my criticism. I really like the amount of control we have with it. How I'm able to tweak pretty much everything. In terms of the effect, I am not a huge fan. Not sure if I'm doing it wrong, but it seems to start glowing on the right and then immediately jump to the left. What exactly are you trying to achieve?
Once again, thank you very much and keep up the good work!

No FinalCutWhiz you are a little bit lost i guess.
The really best point of this glow effect is that you can take 100% the control of it, and not let the system decide.
So play with the parameters of the Mask A and Mask B to position
exactly where you want the glow on the Clip A and the glow on the clip B.
I'm gonna post a video to see closer the great work of Simon.
"Simon" you removed the dissolve in ce center for the reasons that we know...with my video you can see that with some illusion we don't need it too...so more work but great result at the end (it is hard to see the "center" when you play in real time)...Quality of the video is increased by YouT sorry)

Oh, I gotcha
I knew you had control over it, but I didn't think that much. Wow, this really is cool then. Great job!

Maybe I didn't understand your video properly, but it seems to me you are trying to make a transition in which only a masked part of the image is glowed - this is clearly always going to be a problem.
Please do try and use the master control at least for the central part of the transition so that the whole screen has a chance to go to peak white. Either that or dynamically expand the area you are trying to glow by keyframing the masks.
Does that make sense?

No for me it doesn't make sens (sorry
what you are describing is how
newbie editor did all the time.If i'm doing it like that it is just for the artistic sens (but of course it should be not appreciated by every one).If i wanted the Master glow + the mask glow at the end it feels like a simple flash effect and it is not what i want to do with the glow.
Now i can leave a secret, what you did successfully was made before and still there again by a big big FX manufacturer, but shuttttt

I'm sure you know what you're doing, I didn't meant to suggest otherwise!
It's just that it looked as though you were trying to get a transition effect by glowing only a part of the frame, and also trying to get a glow in areas with relatively low luminance values which is never going to look great.
If you want to post a video of the exact effect you are trying to recreate I can have another go at tweaking this one to match. Everything is possible - I just need to know exactly what you are trying to achieve and at the moment I'm just trying to guess what you have in your head.

Hey Simon,
Your "Flicker Flash" Effect transition almost made me jump out of my seat! Very nice work. It also brought up a Longtime question that i've been having for quite some time. The effect that i'm so desperately trying to achieve is very similar to your flicker flash transition. However it would only require the control of the Opacity Flicker.
Basically what i'm trying to do is have 2 video footages stacked up one on top of the other (Track 1/Track2 etc.) The effect i want is so that each layer of video is flickering back and forth between both footages. Almost providing a STROBE like effect.
Here is an example of the effect i'm trying to achieve: (Effect seen at 0:45-0:49 seconds)
Now this is possible by easily just Tacking the razor blade tool and chop out every 2nd frame. I've done this in FCPX with some success. But it is very Tedious as it takes almost 5min just to chop out every 2nd frame of the footage that only lasts 10 seconds.
What i'm thinking is since you built this Flicker transition effect, it would seem as though it would be the same process. That way i can drag your effect from the effects panel onto the length of a clip (10seconds eg.) And that intern would remove every 2nd frame (or 3rd or 4th or 5th depending on desired effect) of video.
I tried using your Flicker Transition but since it is a Transition i cannot get the desired effect.
Would it be possible to create a FCPX effect that removes every 2nd frame of video from a selected clip? If so how would i do this?
Any help would be great thanks.
