I personally think this idea is the correct solution. Not just for browsing purposes but for clarity on installation for beginning users and template designers.

My feeling is that Alex's suggestion is the best so far - the categories make sense in terms of what you would go hunting for.

I imagine most users would browse the categories primarily to see what's new and available. And when searching for a solution to a particular problem they would use the search function.

I do like Alex's suggestion for having a list for each publisher. Could this be achieved via the publisher's profile? If there were links with short descriptions, whenever a user clicked on the publishers name or avatar, it could take them to this catalog listing.

But if this were the case then there would be no call to change the current system, which is optimised for showing what's new.

Clearly what's needed is a FCP X-inspired keyword collection system so that the same templates can be in multiple places at the same time, and then the user can create Smart Collections of the keywords that suit his/her requirements.

That shouldn't keep Peter busy for more than half an hour ;-)

I like smart collection keywords, but I imagine that may be a lot of work. hahaha

Seriously though, a system whereby developers added predetermined tags to their templates - which could then be searchable and aggregated - would be ideal ...

Or is that asking too much?

I've just added a new effect to the new 'category' system, but notice it doesn't show up in the 'Latest Free FCPX Effects' widget on the left sidebar of the website. Why is that? Also are older plugins being migrated to the new hierarchy? Or is this how we are going to categorize things going forward?

Please advise.
