Hi guys!

I'm pretty new to this whole FCP but I know the bare basics! and wanting to learn a bit more, little by little!

Anyway, not too if i've posted this in the right section but I'm looking into adding some text into my video, but not an overlay.

In the youtube video linked above, 3 seconds in, you'll see they've edited text as if it is part of the landscape?
so as the camera pans up, the text stays in one position as if, again, it's part of the scenery.

I was wondering if you could all help me out and point me to a tutorial to do this or able to explain yourself?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

:)

That video is using text tracking. This can be done with a number of plugins such as Coremelt's Track X or Drive X plugins. Alternatively, if you have Motion, you can create text on a clip and use Motion's tracking behavior to achieve similar results. Text is applied where you want it, then a tracking mask is created to tie the text to some object in the video clip. As the clip moves, the text stays locked to the object you are tracking. The Coremelt website has some good tutorials on how this is done using their plugins and the principal is generally similar using other types of tracking behaviors. This can also be done in FCPX directly by keyframing the position of the text as the clip moves, but that is a more tedious approach and likely won't be as accurate.
