workflow codecs... was created by swano
hello fellow fcpx users.
just a quick question. I shoot on a Canon 60D, and have been editing strait off the .mov files.
does anyone think i should be using mpeg streamclip and converting to a prores codec, and if so which one preferably?
many thanks in advance

If you are noticing a "lag" when working with the native .mov files, then ProRes would probably help speed up your work. In this case all you would need to do is check the "Create Optimized Media" check box when importing the files. This will create ProRes 422 versions of the original files as a background process. No need to go near MPEG Streamclip.
If you have already imported and have been using the native /mov files, you can create the optimised (ProRes) media by selecting the event and choosing File > Transcode Media and selecting "Create optimized media".
Hope this helps

As much of a fan of MPEGStreamclip as I am, I think its faster to let FCP X do the transcoding to ProRes for you.
