Im relatively new to Final Cut Pro X. How do you achieve the 16:9 widescreen effect? I hate those think, black lines/ boxes. I have been using the transform button to enlarge the video to a 16:9 effect, but I do not like the fact it cuts off part of the video and what you only see is only a person's face ( and not the whole video). Thank you.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by 'the 16:9 widescreen effect.'

Could you please upload two pictures here. The first showing a frame from your source video, the second showing what you want Final Cut to do to the frame.

There is an excellent "Andy's Elastic Aspect" which you can install free with FXFactory.

Here is the info:

fxfactory.com/info/elasticaspect/

If you have a phobia of FXFactory (like I do. I think they are great, but just want to keep my system clean) I made a little test version for a fellow fcp.co poster that adds a stretched version of pillar boxes. The trick is you need to set your 4x3 footage to "fill" and then apply the effect.

I would like to have my video/photo to be 16:9 "widescreen" like the photo on the left hand side. It covers the entire screen. Whereas the photo on the right side, you can see 2 thick black lines. Thanks :)

Increase the Scale parameter in the Inspector > Video > Transformation.
While increasing Scale, you may need to reposition it within the frame, also.
