How to achieve a MATTED look was created by estoyaqui54
Im relatively new to FCP X. How do you achieve that "shiny", matted look in your videos. Here is an example I would like to achieve. Is this effect from a photo editing program or is there a plugin I can purchase? Thanks..!

This is essentially a white diffusion effect and you can easily get something like it.
Duplicate your clip and place the duplicate immediately above the first instance.
Select the Duplicate and go to the Color Board. Reduce the level of the Shadows quite a bit.
Now go to the Compositing menu and select Screen from the Blend Mode menu.
Finally add a Gaussian blur filter.
Adust the settings to get exactly the look you want but this will be a good place to start.

The Shadows are the "Lows" or "Blacks" represented by the black puck that is second from the left in your screengrab of the interface.
In order as they appear, those pucks are Global, Blacks (or shadows or lows), midtones, and Whites (or highlights).
