I have had no issues with Compressor 4 and FCP X (outside of the usual gripes that sending a project to Compressor takes soooo much longer than sharing out a ProRes clip and then importing that clip into Compressor...but I digress)

I have had MAJOR issues using Motion 5 & Compressor 4. Outside of the aforementioned exporting out a clip from the Motion and then importing it into Compressor, I haven't had a single instance of success getting the two applications to play nice with each other and actually share media.

Every time I've tried using the "Send to Compressor" command or "Export using Compressor settings" command, I've been greeted with application crash or the Share Share Monitor shows a time elapsed bar that goes on for a bit before the "Media Server Application unexpectedly quit" error message pops up.

I have uninstalled and re-installed both applications without any luck. I've repaired my permissions. I've even used Compressor Repair to no avail.

This is bugging the heck out of me. Anyone have an idea on how to fix what's going on?

Anyone have any

What versions of each app?
What OS version?
Did you run the free "Final Cut Remover" from Digital Rebellion before reinstalling?
What are your hardware specs?

I'm trying the processes and not having any problems. Specifically, what are you trying to achieve?

Specifically I'm trying to export my projects from Motion as 100 x 75 Pro Res 444 clips from a 720p project.

I did run FCP Remover before reinstallation.

I'm working in OS 10.7.3 on an i7 MBP with 8GB of RAM (about 7 months old). Running Motion 5.0.2 and Compressor 4.0.2

100 pixels by 75 pixels? That's really odd, and tiny. And to use ProRes 4444 for it is really odd. Why such a high end codec on such a tiny and odd frame size?

I'll assume your media is on a FW800, 7200rpm drive?

I use a program called Synthetik Studio Artist that allows you to use movie clips as brush nibs (think Photoshop Brushes but with video). I use the 100 x 75 dimension size because they're far friendlier than using full frame 720 video as a brush and don't need to be loaded from disk but can instead be cached.

Either ProRes 4444 or Animation. I need the ProRes 4444 so I can keep my alpha channels when I export.

I am working off of a LaCie Rugged Drive (FW800, 7200RPM)

I'm very familiar with Studio Artist, I did a series of video tutorials about it when it was very new. You're using the video as a brush and not as a source image, OK, now I understand. How long in duration is the clip you're exporting? Let me run another test and see what I can figure out.

Thanks so much Ben!

The project I was working with had a duration of 120 frames though I frequently work with 240.

Over the Memorial Day weekend I wiped my system drive and did a fresh install of Lion, FCP X & Motion & Compressor.

Seemed to do the trick. Did a test render out to Compressor from Motion and it went off without a hitch!

Im having the same problem, but only in Motion, without using Compressor.

Whenever I try to export or publish a generator, I get that transcoding progress bar for a minute or so, than "Media server application unexpectedly quit".

I cant go ahead and wipe my HD and start from scratch at the moment. IF anybody know or has a solution to this besides the one mentioned above please do let me know.

Many thanks!

Try deleting the preference files for both Compressor and Motion using Digital Rebellions free preference manager program, and then restart each app. That might help. If not, try re-installing both apps.

Hi,

many thanks for your input. I had already deleted preferences with digital rebellion on both, and removed with same software both apps. REsintalled, and same error.
