TOPIC:

changing the orientation of an object 28 Dec 2020 05:22 #111765

hi,

I am trying to animate a flight path in motion with a plane.

As you can see, the plane's rear instead of the head is following the path (red arrow = direction of travel).

I tried rotating the plane.png within motion property, but snap alignment to motion seems to stop any manual rotation manifestation.

I figured one solution would be to rotate the plane.png and put it back into motion.

Is there an easier way to do it within motion? Thank you!

Hello and good day!🙂

Have you tried to add the plane to a new group and then attach the group to the Motion Path.
Please let me know if that works.

Thank you and have an amazing day! 😊

Thanks! It worked perfectly well. although for the first few frames, I had to adjust the png's rotation for each individually. I am not sure why but it worked

You are very welcome.

I am happy it worked. It may be in the settings to get the orientation to work right off the start.
Or we can turn off the motion path and make sure the direction is correct before we turn the Motion Path back on.

Thank you and have an amazing day! 😊

I tried turning off the behaviour to change the orientation, but it misaligns straight away after I turn the behaviour that aligns the plane to motion path back on.

it’s okay as it’s working now for me. I got what I needed done. Thank you!! Have a great day too!

  1. Apply the Motion Path behavior directly to the image of your airplane.
  2. Adjust to taste.
  3. Apply the Snap Alignment To Motion behavior directly to the image of your airplane.
  4. Adjust to keep the plane facing the direction it is moving in. You may need to invert the axis and set the Rotation Axis to and Axis parameters properly.
But it shouldn't take more than three minutes to achieve this.
