When will Motion get some love?

Motion is not a dedicated compositor, it is not a 3D modeler, it is a basic motion graphics app, always has been, that's all it ever will be.

No, Apple never officially said QC was depreciated for Motion.

The paucity of ambition is stultifying. If you want to defend mediocrity that's your prerogative but don't be surprised if other users want more and expect more.

Pielle wrote: Since you quoted me is right to respond to your comments. Have you stopped to comment on the first sentence of my post ,that was clearly provocative. The real meaning was: stop asking random things difficult to achieve, given that we do not know how many people are employed in Apple for Motion development, rather formulate possible desires As said by MarkNelsonMovies who grasped the meaning.. I more than you would like to have better tools, but I've seen Apple. in the years to follow strange paths not all understandable. Therefore if we focus on specific and achievable topics,I think that something will get.

Well if you want people to read past your first sentence don't make the second one 'End of discussion...'

Name one thing in my suggestions for Motion development that are random?

I would like to see something happen between the iPad Pro and motion. Maybe I can draw splines, or have more artistic tools at my disposal, but I think that would be a great addition to motion.

As for some features I would like to see:
A physics engine.
A bone tool for easier character animation.
A update from what cinema 4d currently gives motion...just cameras and lights.
Layer toggle for motion blur
Audio in the templates for fcpx.

I also think apple should buy a 3D program or make one from scratch. I've used blender and cinema 4d for the past 5 years now, and I love them, but there are still improvements that could be done to UI which I think Apple could tackle quite well. It would also help add another item to their bundle.

I'll give a big second to adding the ability to turn motion blur on and off for individual groups, and FCPX templates with audio as well.

I see it this way... Motion does need some more Love to get todays standard in tools. ;)

Not going complain if it gets them.

I may have opened a can of worms :)
I was just thinking that Apple made Shake...well aquired it and improved it, then killed it.
I know that some things from Shake came over to Motion. Things like image stabilization (which is incredible! Is the same stabilization code in both motion and FCPX??) and optical flow, I think.

The reason I said "Let's SHAKE this up, was in reference to the once compositing SW standard in the VFX industry. Why they ever deprecated it is beyond me, but I'm sure The Foundry is glad they did.
But I guess Apple is more of a hardware and OS company. I wished they cared more about other SW like they seemingly do with FCPX.
I know companies like Lightwave3D of Newtek have around 15-20 devs working on their software. And it's been slow going for them. They're currently re-writing LW3D. I would think a video editing software would be slightly easier to code (don't hate me if I'm wrong). Anyway, I would guess theres less than 10 devs working on FCPX, Motion, and Compressor. Which is probably why Motion never seems to get major updates like FCPX. The 3D text was like one feature that worked with both software, which is probably why they tackeled it. Two birds with one stone.
I wish Apple would throw a bit more money and development to their SW departments. And I'm not considering their OS as SW in this statement. Under their OS I would consider Safari and other pre-installed SW as well.
I'm going on a tangent, I know. I just want Motion to get feature updates like FCPX gets. I mean, Apple has the money to do this. And if it was the concern that theyre not making enough off these SW (which I think they are because FCPX, Motion, and Compressor are always in the top on the app store) then raise the price of them. I mean, $50 is great, but if it's just creating the additude that they shouldn't develop it as much, then I'd rather they charge more for it.
It's crazy you can get all 3 for like $400. FCPX $300, Motion and Compressor $50 each. Now that FCPX has matured, maybe it's time to increase the price, or heck charge for an update. Motion on the other hand, they probably shouldn't raise the price on it in its current state. While it's amazing software, not many people think it's worth more. Now Compressor could be raised in price too. I think it's much better than Encore. And if you look at other pro encoding SW, it's dang expensive. $50 is nothing compared to $500+ for those other encoding SW.

My wish list (Is this too much to ask for?)

1.) Render quality. The render engine in Motion is simply sub-par and does not produce clean results with basic 3d scenes
(i.e. poor anti-aliasing that is chunky and dances from frame to frame)
• There is always the option to use "best" quality, but render times shoot up into the area of the absurd., and results are still not as pleasing as other render engines. (I'll throw out After Effects as an example of a very good looking render result with a reasonable render time.)

2.) Motion blur per layer- and it needs to render more efficiently than it currently does.

3.) 3D camera analysis/tracking.
• Seems like the cordial thing to do after giving us 3D text.

4.) Ability to import 3D objects and animate them like Element 3D
• Again, seems like a reasonable next step after introducing 3D text.

5.) Ability to publish audio (SFX) with an effect, transition, title., etc.
• and the ability to swap out the sound effect in FCPX on a wholesale basis.

6.) A wider array of publishing tools to create Effects, Titles, Transitions, and Generators for FCPX.
• It would be great to have built-in functionality to add onscreen controls in FCPX, for example. Now, we have to rig something by using dummy effects and stand-in layers, etc.

7.) Extended behavior options/particle physics.
• These were the things that initially made Motion unique. It seems that we haven't seen anything new since 5.0

and, my biggest request: (I've been BEGGING Apple for this since 5.0)
****************************************************************
8. Bicubic layers, and Extended Bicubic layers!
• In other apps, this may be known as bezier warp and mesh warp. I'm specifically referring to the tools in Flame and Smoke that can distort a 2D layer, but also allow bending and distortion out into 3D space.
(Having been a Flame/Smoke guy for over a decade, the ONLY things I truly miss from using that toolset are these distortion options. They are very useful for cleanup work, animating still frames, and can be super powerful in creative ways as well.)

I'd happily pay for upgrades if that meant development of FCPX and Motion was faster and deeper. I'm up for a bargain like the next person but I'm not using FCPX et al because they're cheap, I'm using FCPX because it suits the way my mind works.

This thread has motivated me to send more Motion feature requests into Apple. TBH, I'd given up sending them in for Motion because there has been so little development. I can see others are pretty much in the same boat wanting similar things so the more of us that send the requests in the better. I know feature requests are read by the FCPX team because I've had some conversations with them clarifying things and tracking down bugs. I hope the same is true of the Motion team although I've never heard a dickie from them.

I saw Apple was recruiting 3D developers a while back and appointed a new Product Manager for Motion so things might turn around.

Oh yeah, a mesh warper would be so useful Scott, it's such a wonderful tool for all sorts of stuff. I'm also with you on the rendering and antialiasing. Motion seems to have the only vector engine that isn't really all that vector when it suits it. I very often work in UHD in Motion even if I'm outputting to HD to overcome the edge rendering aliasing.

Working in a higher resolution is a good idea for a work around to the aliasing problem.
Thank you, Ufenswinger.

I'll try that and see if it helps.

It's also a good idea to hit the feedback to Apple again for Motion more frequently.

Improvement to the renewing engien is something that we should all be sending feedback on!
