Static in Audio

I have a mini-nightmare on my hands.
Client makes terrible audio, very soft and recorded in a living room
Client jacks up the volume as loud as possible so she can hear it, saves audio out again.
The .wav file she gave sounds decent in iTunes. It's very very hard to hear the static and popping
In Motion, however, it sounds like a bug zapper is going off.
Anyone know why?
Thanks!

Have you tried rendering your timeline in Motion?
That's rough, if the audio is clipping then it's shot
