Hey gang,

I'm trying my hand at building a generator that links a shape's x & y position parameters with the x & y parameters from the kaleidotile effect's x & y "center" parameters. The idea is that I publish the OSC for use in Final Cut Pro X to move the object around. I grab the OSC, drag up or down, left or right and the object moves proportionally. I'm not getting the results I'm looking for.

Linking everything up isn't a problem. But I'm having a great amount of trouble with the level movement fidelity using my setup. I can move 1 pixel up or down, left or right but any further and my object goes flying far off of the screen. I can't just drag the OSC control and have the object follow along.

Aside from changing the X & Y offsets to -.5 and assigning the target and compatible parameters in each of the respective link behaviors, I'm using the default settings.

I'm using Motion 5.0.5, FCP X 10.0.8 and OS X 10.7.5.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently the issue I was having has to do with the source object I was using for the link behaviors. I had an empty "null" layer as the source object and put a kaleidotile filter on it and then linked the two link behaviors to the x & y parameters of the filter.

Motion, it seems, needs something other than a null layer for a source object. After putting a color solid in the null layer, placing the kaleidotile filter on the color solid and pointing the link behaviors to the color solid instead of the layer that held it, everything is now working as it should.

Hat/Tip to Simon Ubsdell for letting me look at one of his project files for reference.

Well I'm sorry to tell you this but if you want to start working ASAP for a production house then you'd better start learning AVID, FCP 7 and Premiere. If its working on your own then by all means learn FCP X until you are totally comfortable then move on to Motion.

Grailz,

Thank you for sharing the solution.

Angelblue,

Well I'm sorry to tell you this but we run two post houses for national broadcast with a total of 15 editors all working on FCPX. If you don't know FCPX you cannot have a job with us. So it seems to me you are badly misinformed. But if you would like to learn more I think everyone here will be happy to help you B)

Discovery channel just posted a job for an EXPERIENCED FCP X editor, stressing that if you are just learning it they won't hire you.

But then again, who brought up what to learn to get hired?
