Apple To Speak At LAFCPUG On June 27

Well "significant new features" sounds like new stuff to me.

But will it be the "significant new features" already announced on their web page, or additional stuff?

At this point I have no clue what to expect. The 10.0.5 maintenance/retina update threw the timetables I had for FCPX updates out of whack.

Apple has shown "some" inclination to being more engaged/informative, even if it's through specific people. I think this will need to continue as long as they're on the development path of reintegrating legacy features. Truth is, they're not giving away much if they say they're working on Multi-cam or native RED support.

My gut is telling me this is the big 10.1 announcement tonight. The first half will be like a typical Apple event, like a state of the industry and FCPX's involvement with stats and figures. 2nd half is about the new features and enhancements, and releasing as early as tomorrow, probably want to release before Mountain lion, but wouldn't be surprised at a september release.

If I'm wrong and they do just re-hash the features that were released 6 months ago, I think they would be doing a huge dis-service to the remaining pros that didn't jump ship the last year. And as a "pro" that has stuck with them and I really like Fcpx, I would really have to question Apple's commitment to the "pros".

The fact that they aren't filming it makes me uncomfortable. No love for the east coast! As least with last year's NAB we were able to see a few bootleg videos.

Apple never allows recoding of their events unless its by themselves. That's not new, and not disturbing.

I'm expecting, and it's in line with Apple's tradition:

1- Just talk about statistics, their commitment, and gain some trust verbally that way.

2- Show us what is already announced as coming features on the web site, demo them.

3- Make huge promises about commitment and such for the future.

When Mr. Horton (founder of LAFCPUG) says don't expect much, I don't expect much. He's been around a long time and knows Apple pretty well. What ever they've said so far, they've said to him. Not holding my breath.

Well, even if they only demo the features they've already pre-announced on the website, I think that will be enough.

Dual Viewers and Multi-track audio mixing are two fairly far-reaching integrations (not to mention RED support), so I wouldn't consider a presentation that demos those 2 elements to be a disappointment.

Either way, I'm excited! I hope my job wraps on time today otherwise I may be a little late and have to look to the others attending to tweet (assuming the wi-fi works at all!)

OK, just got a Twit account, and if I did this correctly. Now to waste time trying to figure out how it works. So I can delete the account as soon as this is all over with.

Technically you want to have a saved search for #lafcpug, rather than Horton's account @lafcpug.

The difference is that @lafcpug will only show you messages that Mike tweets himself, whereas the saved search for #lafcpug will show you ALL tweets that have that hashtag.

Yeah, that's basically what I did.

FCPX news aggregation is all I really use twitter for. People tweeting from the lafpcug at NAB last year is why I got my account.

So who is tweeting what? Maybe a test tweet could help to isolate the tweets.

Apple goes on from 7:30 to 8:30 PST, which is 10:30-11:30 for those of us on the wrong coast.

or 3:30AM for those of us in the wrong country...

None of them have used it- and yet they have such a definitive opinion of it.
