Does anyone know if the Sony FX6 is compatible with FCPX?
My documentary team has two FX6 cameras and we've shot lots of material and edited it in FCP. We mainly shoot UHD 4k/23.98 10-bit 4:2:2 XAVC-I "All Intra". It is very smooth to edit in FCP and the metadata support for MXF is good. Sometimes we've recorded ProRes 422 from the FX6 to an Atomos Ninja V or Shogun 7 and that also works well but the image quality is identical to the Sony XAVC-I, and there is less camera metadata.
The specialized gyro stabilization data is not supported by FCP or any other NLE. To use that the FX6 material must first be imported to Sony Catalyst Browse, stabilized, then exported to ProRes or MXF. The gyro stabilization is effective but mainly for 60 fps, less so 24 fps. It also requires all lens optical stabilization be disabled, so we rarely use it for that reason.
Have a doc using the same camera and all the same codecs previously listed here (though at 25fps) and honestly, it works perfectly in FCP and with my M! gear without any need for proxies/optimised etc.
