Nudging synced clips? was created by Ultramagnustcv
I was in the middle of a project which included synced audio/video when the 10.6.2 installed. Before the update, the synced audio and video seemed fine. However, I noted after the update that all of the synced-in audio was about 10 frames off to the left. (It's possible I simply didn't realize that everything was off by 10 frames before the update. I can't check now.)
I was able to fix it manually--my projects are very, very short--but I did that by detaching audio and nudging the audio itself.
I know that one can nudge the synced audio elsewhere, but I don't know how to do that. What's more, if I did that more global nudge, does it also adjust clips that have already been placed?
So. Two questions:
1. How can I nudge all of the synced audio and, if I do,
2. Will the placed clips also get the nudge or do I need to nudge before hand?
While I'm here, another question:
Oftentimes, the audio starts too soon, before a transition is complete. I usually detach the audio and pull the audio to the right so that it starts after the transition. Is there a more clean way? To my mind, detaching audio might be messier and cause more problems? I don't know.
Thanks, all.

This all depends on how you synced your clips.
If they're 'synchronized', each instance is unique. You'd need to fix each instance in your timeline (double-click the upper half of the clip to open it, make the adjustment, go back to the timeline, repeat). Or you could fix it in the browser (I'd recommend doing this regardless) and then replace each timeline instance.
If you've synced them in a Multicam clip, you could fix it once (browser or timeline) and that change would propagate to all instances automatically.
For audio trimming near a transition, double-click the audio waveform of the clip you want to change (or select the clip, go to the Clip menu, and choose 'Expand Audio'), then just drag the top/tail of the audio to the spot you want it to come in, adjust fade handles if needed, then collapse the audio by double-clicking the waveform again. This is how you'd do J and L cuts as well - when the audio is 'expanded' you can adjust either the audio or video (or both) independently, in place.

Adding to dmetz's wonderful answer...
(I was composing my response at the same time, it seems, but was bit slower to finish...
)
To manually adjust a synced a-v clip, you can select the clip and choose "Open Clip" from the Clip menu. This opens the clip in the timeline and you can nudge the audio there. For more details, check out pages 276 to 282 of the FCP User Manual, which you can get here:
help.apple.com/pdf/final-cut-pro/en_US/f...t-pro-user-guide.pdf
In my simple testing using 10.6.2, you'd need to fix your clips in the browser and ones you've already edited into a Project separately. Once browsers clips have been "fixed", you can edit them into a timeline without issue.
For the second part, it seems like you might be wanting to do a split edit (J or L cut). Instead of detaching audio, you would expand the audio. You can separately edit audio and video once the audio is expanded (and you won't lose sync). Pages 185 to 189 in the FCP User Manual cover this in more detail.
I will add that there are many benefits to synching audio and video using multicam clips rather than "synced clips"...
Cheers.

Thanks all.
Just in case this makes any difference, I think my sync is very basic. I import some audio from Zoom. I then import audio that's recorded from our mixer. I then sync the two. That's it.
Does that change anything with regard to the answers?

Essentially, no, but I'm a bit puzzled by this question so let me see if I understand what you're doing..
1 - you record a Zoom meeting and download the file
2 - you record live audio from the same meeting through a mixer to another audio-only recorder
Does anything happen with the video, or is this just a pair of audio tracks?

The Zoom file is video and audio. The mixer is just audio. The mixer audio sounds better so I sync the mixer to the Zoom and disable the audio (timeline) audio.
If you need some images, I can provide. Does this help?

That makes perfect sense, thanks!.
The steps outlined earlier (by me and DavisS) are correct.
