Final Cut Pro Hue Vs Hue Color Replacement Help?

Hi, so I'm using the hue saturation curves as I have a video background that consists of two colours moving about, however I want to 'remap' both of these colours, now using Hue vs hue I can easily control the colour change, the problem is I can't find a way to replace it with precisely the colour I want. Is there a way to inpu a hex code or an RGB value for the desired replacement colour? I searched but I couldn't seem to find anything. I do have Motion as well and I tried on that.

It would be great if someone could let me know how to choose a more precise colour for the replacement rather than the sliding graph, or perhaps if you know of a better method in either FCP or Motion ro achieve this simple 'replace all of this shade with this shade' effect.

Thank you for your time!

Motion has a colour reduce filter which does exactly what you want. FCP doesn't have that filter so you would need to create a Motion template (FCP effect) with the colour replace filter applied to the Effect Source.
Last edit: 26 Mar 2021 22:00 by Carsten Orlt. Reason: incorrect filter name and FCP filter correction

Yes that's exactly right, and motion has this filter? Apologies if this is asking a bit much, but where is said filter located, I checked colour as I recall, is it just somewhere in the dropdown?

Not easily within FCP with the built-in plug-ins. After Effects has a "change color" effect that allows what you're talking about.

One way you might try doing it is to create a solid with the exact color you want using the color picker and hex values. Then do a (temp) split screen between your hero layer and the colored solid. Then you will have an on-screen target to eye-match the color against. Once you're done, toss the color sold and turn off the split screen.

Apparently it's doing with motion? I hope that's the case. I don't have after effects unfortunately and I'd like to avoid paying for it if posisble haha, I hope motion can do it as I have that, if not I may buy a month's subscription to after effects as much as it would pain me to do so for so little use

yes Motion definitely has that filter.
If you don’t know how to use filters in Motion you might have to look for tutorials as it’s hard to explain in words only. If you look for the Color replace filter in Motion the quickest way is to look at the Library tab and the filters directory, and then in the Color directory.
