Looking For The Best Map Animator? 25 Jul 2019 13:16 #100581

Hi,
I'm looking for the best map animator for FCPX. I came across FCPX Maps 1.1 by Pixel Film Studios (below). This appears to be what I'm looking for but, I only could find a couple reviews which stated that it freezes and is hard to use. I took a trip through several states along Route 66 and would like to animate the trip along the roads I took with video. If you know of a great map animator plugin, please let me know. If you have used the one I mentioned, please let me know your thoughts as well. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks, Ray

Depending on what particular map/travel animation you are looking for, you may want to check out mTravel ( www.motionvfx.com/store,mtravel,p2190.html?q=mTravel) and mTravel 2 (www.motionvfx.com/store,mtravel-2,p2664.html?q=mTravel) by motionVFX. I have mTravel and it works flawlessly. motionVFX has great support too.

Of course, you can roll your own and Mark Spencer has a good tutorial for doing that in Motion

I don't recommend Pixel film studio. Not the best company
Motion VFX is way better as a company.

But I haven't used or tried the software mentioned by Thinkfilm.

Not a fan of Pixel Film Studios. I don't touch their stuff.

Thank you for the links and Mark's video!! I looked at their videos which looks impressive. I sent motion vfx the following email asking them a few questions in regards to their tutorial below;
1) In your tutorial, the generated route moves from start to finish ahead of the drop zone. Can the drop zone be used at the head of the route line during animation?
2) Can the Start and Finish text and Start and Finish icons be turned off. In some situations, I wouldn't want them visible.
3) I like the fact that route lines can be changed by using B-Spline, Bezier, Linear. I have some routes that may need more than 15 points. Is there a way to increase that number to further my route precisely?
4) Can a drop zone be added for example at the beginning and the end of the created route animation? If so, can it be adjusted from small view to full screen view? 5) Are there any plans for 3D type animation?

Pixel Film Studios is pretty awesome. They've always been extremely helpful to me whenever I had an issue. One issue I had where a plug-in wouldn't work on my weak Mac Pro Trash Can. They fully refunded me without much hassle.

Glad you had a good experience....... After researching the internet, it seems that you are the exception to what I've read. After viewing FCPX Maps 1.1 video by Pixel Film Studios, it appears to be what I'm looking for, but all I see is negative reviews. Thanks for chiming in, I appreciate your input. Ray

What you're trying to do is just way to easy to do manually, anyway. Just do it in Motion manually.

Motion should work just fine. If you want a car to be animated along the motion path you could just use a clipart automobile.

I have had terrible luck with the Pixel Studios product. It has been incredibly buggy and the only documentation they were able to provide for how to use it was a 5 minute very high level video. I took the recommendation of someone else in this chat and purchased the motionVFX product, it is significantly better!

I totally agree, I took a chance and purchased FCPX Maps 1.1 from Pixel Studio's. After hours with them on the phone and having access to my computer, they still couldn't fix the problem they have with FCPX Maps 1.1. They finally stated back in August tyhat they need to update it. Guess what?? No update as of yet and they're still selling the same exact one. Never again with this company for me. Happy New Year to you and your's!! Ray :)
