I just completed a pro bono video for the Homeless and attempted to upload this 5:20 short video to YouTube. I addressed all of the requested parameters including signing in to YouTube and hit return. Nothing seems to be happening, no upload indication from FCP.
I have referred to two manuals and by all indications I have done everything correctly but apparently not.
FCPX finally indicated that it had uploaded to YouTUbe but I cannot locate it on YouTube. Not even by searching with my name or the name of the video. Will continue to try and will be more patient in the future.
FCPX's YT function is buggy, I never touch it, personally. I export a ProRes master, then upload that, and finally delete the ProRes sitting on my desktop. Seems to be faster than FCPX's function, and I get great quality.
I agree with Mr. Guru. Export into a MOV file and then upload that directly to your channel. You have so much more control when you do it that way. I wouldn't upload a ProRes master though unless you have truly wicked upload speeds. I make a high-bitrate h.264 and upload that (even then my uploads usually exceed 10GB). Youtube will also process that much more quickly.
When you do it this way you can also upload a custom thumbnail... maybe not if the channel is brand new but I think everyone is allowed to do a custom thumbnail.
I do this: In FCPX make master file. Master file saved to desktop then rhat file to Compressor, choose YouTube preset and set destination to Desktop. Finally go to YT upload page and up load the YT version.
