Sometimes when I insert a a transition, the clips make a jump in frame site. This happen from time to time both photo slides and movies. I have not found a common cause, but I think stabilization have been involved in many occasions, but not always. (Not in my slideshow obviously). Many questions regarding this on the web, but no accurate answer.

Does anybody have an explanation? My example shows a Fade to color transition. The clip jumps out when the transition is finished. Why - and how to solve this?

A lot of factors could be inv Lived in this. Can you give the specs of the media involved and the project properties. Perhaps you could post a screen capture somewhere if what happens.

Have noticed this a bit too. If you have something that is rather jerky, the sabiliuzaiton features trims the frame to come in closer as part of the process to stabilize. This seems to happen mainly on very jerky sequences. Best to avoid using footage that requires this much stabilization. Those who are working on high end projects most likely seldom see footage in this category.

To me, this looks like you may have bladed the clip in a couple spots and applied stabilization to them individually. If so, the amount of scale will vary based on how much FCPX needs to stabilize that particular portion. As TonyBSyr mentions, the clip probably requires a lot of stabilization, but applying that to sections rarely yields good results. If applied to the entire clip you probably wouldn't see the quick jumps, but the overall scale may be larger than you want and you may see distortion in the quick. jerky portions.

I'd be curious to know if you did, in fact, blade sections of that clip.

This is just a normal clip quite stabile in the beginning, stabilized in one operation - no blading. As I mentioned there are several posts on this problem on the web, but no solution. If I remove the transition, the clip play normal without the jump in frame size.

I have noticed this before also on clips that is not stabilized. Last time I remember, there was a photo slideshow when the use of a vignette mask created the same jump. Same transitions without the vignette mask was OK.

In the majority of transitions in my projects , everything works the way I should.

… a transition affects always two clips. And what puzzles me, as far as I can see in your screen-grab, that the transition fades to the SAME content.
But clip4117 most probably is not identical to clip GOPR2530…

My 'verdict' ;)
the transition fades to a 'left over'/small copy of GOPR2550… Delete the transition and have a look… or, look in the Timeline Index for a doublet…

The transition is between clip #117 og GOP 2530. It is not the same clip (my screen grab shows the transition from the middle - I didn't want to post my kids..) and there is no hidden left-over..

Anyway problem is solved: I applied rolling shutter to GOP2530 and that took care of the jump in frame size. Removing rolling shutter. Stil no problem in frame size. I don't see the connection. A bug?
