Is there a way to draw arrows or circles on the video to pick out things? I asked the guy who does a series of bike racing videos (How the Race Was Won, Cosmo Catalano) because he frequently does things like that, and his solution was to screen shot the frame he wanted to draw on, bring that into Photoshop, add the lines, arrows, and circles, and then bring the still frame back into FCPX and give it a few seconds duration. That's not exactly satisfactory.
The idea I had was to make a bunch of stills of arrows and other such effects on a transparent or green background and then use Keyer to overlay one or more on the action, using X and Y transforms to put them where I want, even maybe using keyframes to make them follow a moving thing I wanted to pick out.
there are several ways to accomplish such an effect:
• the Circle generator in FCPX offers Arrows too
• check the net for 'highlight' or 'call out' plugins, you find some here in the free plug-in section of fcp.co, or, just to mention one, from rippletraining, an animated callout package available at fxfactory
• create your own in Motion
• I vaguely remember a 'paint on screen'-tool - you could use such and use the Quicktime.app to screen-red that …
• tbc …
