Since Apple upgrade FCP to X version, i am asking for a very very very small function. Menu Bar efects. I know, someone
will tell me thats a shit. But now in after effects ( video copilot plugin ) its possible search for effects very fast. It works likes apple osx spotlight or alfred for instance. Select a video (etc) , ctrl + space a type de name of the effect and bum! easy, how fast! C4D has this function for years! Why not in FCPX?.
Keyboard shortcut in FCPX is Command-5, the search bar is right there at the bottom. Not as automatic, would be a neat feature, but I spend very little time applying effects while I edit. Motion on the other had is a motion graphics package and THAT wold benefit from such a feature much more. Just my 2 cents.
> this feature is on nobody else's FCP X wishlist because very few feel the time loss of dragging or double clicking as a problem, whereas they are accustomed to an instant skim-preview of the effects.
> this menu bar is a plugin, a script, and not anything Adobe came up with by their own devices. I 'm allowed to say that the whole AAE GUI is really old fashioned and cumbersome, because I use it myself. It's a smart feature on top of a very old app whose best features (like Mocha) are very poorly integrated. Because they are plugins as well with their own GUI.
> I am not a hacker, but I can imagine it can't be too hard to write such a thing for FCP X. It could be like alt+ e first sets a selected video effect as the default (a command only available through ctrl.- or right-click) and then (as is the default shortcut) applies this effect to the selected clip(s). Some however will prefer to be able to apply multiple instances of the CC effect to one clip with alt + e. But note that for primary CC you just need to type cmd+6 once, and the effect will automatically be on any clip on which you made changes anyway. Denver Riddle recommends to apply CF to all clips in advance, and you could as well do that with the built-in colorboard. Therefore, I would prefer the directly-apply-selected-effect-shortcut over the default. But others may disagree.
>There should be a keyboard shortcut tricks/solutions - section on fcp.co, because these solutions may already exist. Function keys to change and cut multicam angles (exist, I wouldn't use them because I rarely use multicam), sorting rules in the browser (exist through system preferences' keyboard mapping, I use this). Actually, when I think this over, I don't need 9 favorite effect shortcuts (in the NLE, that is), but I'd like to have ONE shortcut to apply any selected effect so I don't need to drag or double-click. See above.

hmm, to drop my5¢ …
fast is good, easy is good.
But is such an 'extension' really faster & easier?
I mean, I'm a busy plugin maker… my effectsTab is crowded with 'ks_xxx vers5' stuff. So, to get the right one needs a lot of typing.
plus, "…was it TV? BadTV? Alex' TV? Jitterlines??" …
plus, you can, at last, access two effects by shortcuts cmd-6 (color correction, no doubt THE most used effect) and opt-E (any effect YOU use most in a project) …
plus: by Apple HIG standards, shouldn't it be a context-menu feature?
or, when you hit cmd-5, should the cursor in the searchbar automatically be set to 'hot'? hmmmm? dunno.
final verdict from me: good for people who a) type fast, b) have an excellent memory for names …
