With the new operating system coming out next week, I thought it was time to get this discussion going. ;) So, anyone have experience with FCPX on the macOS 10.12 Beta's they'd like to share?

Even though there's a public beta it's still covered by an NDA.

Don't be a buzzkill, Tom. It's probably important to talk about any issues with upgrading rather than find out later, no?

Well, while I appreciate the "don't be a buzzkill" sentiment, I just now read the NDA associated with the Public Beta. I guess I shouldn't have asked the question. The NDA states that only information already disclosed by Apple can be discussed. I was surprised because I've read a large number of articles about details of the OS, and while not claiming to be an expert on what's been disclosed by Apple, these articles have far more detail than what I've seen from Apple. Of course, those articles could be in violation of the NDA! But, in any event, far be it from me to solicit illegal or immoral behaviour! :)

Hahaha wow. FCP7 still works in Sierra. That thing won't ever die will it. Good for Bruce.

Seriously FCP7 will never die. I just edited a 40-minute 4K 60fps show in FCP7. Worked!

Running the GM candidate and FCPX 10.2.3 I've noticed the timecode display bug is back.

In this case a $300 fumigator! :)

I mostly use FCPX but I appreciate how much faster and snappier FCP7 still is. FCPX bogs down when timelines get long and/or complex. FCP7 does not. I wish FCPX could be as snappy as FCP7. And I'm on a friggin' Mac Pro 6,1.

I can't agree, I can edit adjust in FCPX in real time during playback which is not possible in FCP7 without Rendering.

I'm certainly not implying that FCPX isn't more feature-filled and also more fun to edit in. I'm just saying it does not perform as well for me with long-form project. When I select a clip in the timeline or move the playhead in FCP7 it is instantaneous. In FCPX, when the timeline gets long or too complex, there is a wait. There is no reason it should be laggy compared to FCP7. It can't be blamed on my hard drives because why would the same drives with the same footage work snappy no matter what in FCP7 but not in FCPX? I've done fresh install of the OS, no change. It's probably optimized for iMacs and not Mac Pro 6,1 (which so far I do kind of regret buying... it feels like a weak system).

I'm with Redifer on the snappyness (snappiness?)
Improved snappyness would be appreciated in the next version.
For me that's what comes up to my mind when I open up Avid.
Once it's ( finally) finished loading, it's also feels much snappier.

Are there any desirable features in Sierra? Looking at Apple's on web page about it, it seems the biggest addition in Siri which if course I'd disable immediately (never use it on my phone). Then there was some stuff about laptops and other things that would never appeal to me. I'm still on Yosemite as El Captain didn't appeal to me with cool new changes, either. And Yosemite works completely fine.

Actually it´s even a little bit spooky. All the automatic uploading of files while deleting the originals from the harddisk when free space gets low.

Anyway, I can´t imagine FCPX going macOS Sierra only soon, so probably not a problem.

If it's purely cosmetic and doesn't affect functionality (like last time), we should just ignore it until it's fixed (like last time).

I agree. There's no features in Sierra from what I can see that would be needed by an app like an NLE. It seems to be targeted towards people with iPhones and watches more than being an actual useful update. It's apparently quite literally trying to bridge OSX with iOS so now we have macOS. I can't imagine what any new version of FCPX could possibly have that would prevent use in older OSes. Maybe a few features like editing with your phone or something like that.

Someone with problem in SUGARfx Light pack?
After installation of the Sierra, this package has stopped working, displays only a solid color.
