FCPX/Motion 5 Keyer

I was looking around in Motion 5 and saw that there are a lot of Advanced settings for the Keyer that looked like they would be really useful. I tried to publish those settings to have an "Advanced Keyer" effect in FCPX, but it was greyed out. Also, the Keyer Effect doesn't allow for "Open a Copy in Motion".

Does anyone know a way of accessing these settings inside FCPX to possibly create a more advanced Keyer for FCPX? I'm not a Plugin/Effects Engineer, but if it is already there it doesn't seem like it would be hard to create.

Thoughts?

It's not a template, so you can't open a copy. It's a programmed in function. More controls are in Motion, as Motion allows for more underlying programing functionality of that type than FCP X does. If you need more keying power than what is in FCP X, do it in motion. Even the very awesome Phyx Keyer is great in FCP X, but do to functionality, the same plugin has more controls in Motion.

What is a good workflow for keying in Motion and editing on FCPX, since there is now round-tripping?

1st, if you can't pull a good key in FCP X, you need to rethink your lighting and shooting of your greenscreen work. It's a pretty good keyer.

But if you need the extra help in Motion, you open Motion, start a new Motion generic project, import your greenscreen footage, you put your background footage/graphics into a layer below it, key it. Pretty easy. Export as a QT movie for use in FCP.

Same thing you'd do in FCP, you just launch Motion instead.

I was wondering myself how good this new Keyer is in the Motion!
Is it comparable with Keylight?

It actually is VERY good. There are third party keyers that give more control. For legacy and current FCP and Motion nothing beats Phyx Keyer, period.

But, if you "learn" how the new keyer in Motion 5 actually works, it's pretty good. But, it's not as intuitive as it looks.

Well I was just wondering, I have been doing some Keying in it from a client which has not provided the best lighted green screen footage. But has worked pretty well compared to the Motion 4 Primatte Keyer which I think is horrible.

Just know from previews jobs on Shake and Nuke that Keylight was the way to go.
I did check out the PHYK Keyer looks kinda cool except there web page design is a bit scary. ;)

Phyx Keyer is carried by Noise Industries (FX Factory), and originally was a Shake plugin back in the day. Extremely sophisticated, be assured.
