Hey guys,
I'm new to FCPX and I was hoping you could help me with an issue I've discovered.
I've just been learning about using Keywords and segmenting out parts of a clip with a Keyword. This is helpful, but it can clutter up my Keywords list if I do it with each clip to the extent I want.
I'm working with an interview, which has been shot in one long shot (it's about an hour long). I want to save out each question's answer individually, while renaming each segment so that it's easier for me to find later. Up until now, I've been adding a new Keyword to it, and moving on. Coming back to each Keyword under the clip and adding a note.
This seems like a very long and drawn-out way to solve this problem. Is there something I'm missing? If not, how do you handle long interviews?
Thanks!

This is how I've approached a similar situation before. And this is working totally in the Brower's List view.
I'd use Keywords to segment out different individuals being interviewed.
Then maybe select a range of each of those you want, tag it as a Favorite, and add the quote in the Notes column.
Then, when you're searching that clip, set the Clip Filter (upper left menu) to "Favorites". Then you can use the search field (upper right) to search for specific quotes.
Or you can just open the disclosure triangle for that clip in the Browser and see the list of quotes in the Notes field.

Just to add to what Ben said, I like to rename the Favorite with a few words that define the soundbite. The fav name is text searchable.

Glad you mentioned that Tom. At one time if you created a Fav range, changed the name, created a second fav range, changed that one's name, all the fav ranges changed to the same name. Was a bug. So I never thought about naming the actual fav itself after that. I'm glad they got that fixed! I bet its been fixed for a long time, too, eh? Doh!

Thanks for all your help guys! It's a bummer that there is no easy way to actually segment out a clip, but this favoriting idea seems like a great work around!
I'll check in on the thread every now and then, feel free to post any other work arounds, I'd love to know how everyone handles this issue.
Thanks again!

You can rename the part of a clip that appears in the timeline.
If you add your interview to your project, you can slice it up by blading it.
You can then rename each part of the interview by control- or right-clicking it and choosing Rename from the context menu.

If you don't want these clips in your timeline, you can select them all and make them into a compound clip which will be added to your default event. You can delete the compound clip from your timeline and refer to named clips in the compound clip by selecting it in your event and choosing 'Open in Timeline' using control- or right-click context menu.

Tom,
this is great news! I was on the same road as Ben - tried renaming different favs and got stuck in the same bug so I put that idea aside. Good to know that this works now, thanks!
