copy and paste text without rich text formatting

copy and paste text without rich text formatting was created by David S.
I have an annoying issue that I wonder if anyone else has noticed and been able to solve.
I can't find an easy way to copy text from one place, say a script or an email etc...
and paste them into a text generator without the formatting information in the text also being copied and pasted.
The workaround that I have been using is to first paste the text into text edit, make plain text and then copy paste from there. Too many steps in the process.
Anyone else found a workaround, preference setting, or app that could keep me from having to do it this way?
I have read that you can assign "Paste Without Formatting" and/or "Paste and Match Style" to Command + V in the keyboard preferences panel, but I have not been able to get this to work. I have also read that "Command + Shift + Option + V" might be the answer, but I have tried this and it doesn't work either.

You have to paste it into the text field in the inspector.
This way, source formatting won't be applied.
