Crash with Clone Spin and Video Wall Transitions. Every Time.

I'm on 10.0.5 and I've tried to play around with both Clone Spin and Video Wall (which are similar transitions), and while I can successfully apply the transition and preview it, I cannot change any of the parameters (i.e. I cannot select which clips to be shown during the transition). I get an instant crash EVERY TIME I left click the effect. Right-click is the only way I can delete the clip and move.

Has anyone else encountered similar problems in 10.0.5? In past iterations, I was able to use both of these without a problem.

If it matters, I'm on a Mac Pro with the Radeon 5770, 12 GB RAM working off the internal 7200 RPM hard drive on OS 10.6. I'm thinking of upgrading it to Mountain Lion to see if this fixes it, but I'd like to see first if anyone else has had this issue.

Just tested this on a similar system but with ML, no problems here.

I just tried the video wall transition and it crashed my system! It is stuck trying to force close right now but how do I make it close and restart after something like this? Right now, it is a grey screen with FCP X open and a whirly gig in the center of FCP X trying to close.....

Wait another couple of minutes. If nothing happens press and hold down the power button of your mac until it shuts down. Then restart.

Jeez - I feel bad for bringing it up! :( My apologies, friend.

This confirms, though, that this is definitely something Apple needs to be aware of...a built-in transition should not trigger the full collapse of the application on any machine.

I agree. Only use these transitions if you have plenty of RAM and never use them between compound clips.

I am glad you did Swester! Now I know what crashed it! yep! it is still sitting there! All I did was try to do the video wall which I will never use again till it is working! My system will have to be a hard reboot I guess! Thanks I'll try the power button if it drags its feet any longer!

Got it back, had to do a cold reboot using the power switch but it is all good now and I deleted that transition.

ML is more stable with FCP X.
Don't put your events and projects on the OS drive.

I actually don't and suggest to others to not do so either...even though I am a total NooB! Anyway, mine might have crashed due to something other than the transition as I now think that was a coincidence. I did remember that I had tried to ingest some P2 footage yesterday and a member here ejected the card without ejected it on the system, he just ejected it from the drive itself. When he slid it back in after getting the incorrectly ejected message, the machine went in to a stuck on trying to require state, at least that is why i think it crashed. Anyway, it is back to normal now!
