I like to stay on OS X versions that work for me, but time might be running out for 10.6.8.
I think that the next update might drop it - hopefully because new features require 10.7, not only because it is easier to test for only two versions of the OS at once.

That would make sense. And hopefully FCPX is leveraging core OS technologies.
I'd halfway considered whether 10.0.6 would require Mountain Lion, as I've been on the update fence for a week. But I think thats way too short a tail for OS compatibility.

I hope not! That would be the nail in the coffin for my MacPro which can't run it.
Hopefully they don't drop Lion support until there is a decent machine to replace the Mac Pro.

Way to early for that yet. If not by early afternoon Pacific (another 6 hours), then probably not.
Actually, I'd be willing to wager it will be this week or next, since I'm on Holliday out of the country and wont have any way to download it! Har, har...

I checked it out, usually around noon pacific time. I'm actually delaying the start of an edit waiting for an update as it would be nice to have three of the new features(RED native, dual viewers, multichannel mixing) announced earlier in the year.

Hahahaahaaa...yes yes! I just like it when I can work smoothly...I have faith in Apple! The hiccups are annoying but that is what you get when you are at the forefront!
I'm now on Mountain Lion and 10.0.5 and everything is fine and dandy....so any changes are welcome....

I'm just glad for your sakes that there is an electronic app store as your boundless enthusiasm would've had you spending another uncomfortable night sleeping out the front of your local Apple store.
Move along. Nothing to see here.

I would do the opposite rather work with a new version on smaller projects.

It could very well be another month before an update. Once all the iPhone and iMac hype dies down.

I honestly wouldn't try to correlate anything between big events and an update to FCPX. While its true that Apple likes to keep the media message clear on large announcements like iPhones and iPads. Theres no press competition between those products and FCPX.
So I'd say 10.0.6 will come when it's ready (and on its preplanned schedule) regardless of what other announcements it makes across its other hardware lineup.
Next Tuesday will be 92 days since 10.0.5, which is as long as 10.0.1 was from the original release. So I'd say the next release is imminent, and probably as big if not bigger than 10.0.1 or 10.0.3.

Agreed. The update will come when it comes. It'll have what it has. I personally hope for a few specific small things, and I'm very hopeful. We shall see.

The update will certainly come when it comes. It's not likely to arrive before or after it arrives baring changes in the space time continuum.
Of course arriving on Tuesday, the final day of IBC, might cause some chatter although there might be time zone disadvantage.
Sans reports of "secret meetings" with anointed ones, maybe not so soon after all.
