Any reasons why commenting front-page news only with a FB/twitter/… account?

Suggestion:
Lately, I read your Top10 tips for Multicam - yeah, great article, love the suggestion to color-correct whole Cam-Angles first, would like to add my personal #11"stack the same MC twice for nice Pic-in-Pic/split screen effect" => NoGo!
Believe it or not: No FB, no twitter here :woohoo: I'm sooooo last century!; being a board-member, no first-post-spammer, logged in - but no luck.
Is this to 'spread the word' …?
Does that automatically create posts/links/likes/thumbs/hearts/gummy bears? (I have no idea with those social medias) – then… hm, ok.
But, …, would be nice for board-members, to find a 'Discuss Article'-zone ... seen that on other boards, handy!

Totally +1. I would seriously love to comment more often but this system with two usernames (FB vs fcp.co) plus the hassle with the site not remembering the login properly is just annoying. I love fcp.co and am a daily visitor, but the usability is well worth a recode

It is useful for fcp.co to use the FB comments because then the articles appear in people's feeds.
But indeed it leaves a few of us out (including me)

Ok let's tackle these two problems.
We use Facebook as a commenting system because it has some very powerful anti-spam features. if you have ever run a website that has a comments section, you'll know how much of a problem this can be.
Before we went to Facebook as a method of authentication, we were getting between many posts per day that had to be removed. Yes people get employed in Pakistan, india and Indonesia (we check IPs) to sit there and create user accounts to spam. Doesn't matter how many levels of authentication you put up, it still happens.
We have taken antispam measures on the Forum too. A program runs that filters out posts called Askimet works pretty well, but you can see some do get through and it is a daily chore to remove the health or running shoes ads.
Could we allow registered users to post in the future? Maybe, but we would have to find a robust way of stopping spam.
As for the Forum not remembering the login, yes this is a week know problem with the Forum software that hasn't got a fix.
I login more than once a day using the Community page, you'll find safari will save your password so it only takes a few clicks

Hi Peter,
thanks for chiming in, very much appreciated.-
… haven't thought, that logging-in via FB&Co is an 'anti spam measurement' - yep, those protein-shakers and self-declared therapists are a pest! You do an excellent job, cleaning that mess… the few flying under the radar are easy to identify.
Askimet - "ask, I'm E.T.", really???
… perhaps time, to get a Twitter-account or something ...
Yeah, logging-in, loggin-out ... just a lil' disturbance in The Matrix.
Other glitches… :
In my User-profile, in the 'banner', my beauty-shot of my MacMini, although 'selected' isn't displayed...
And embedded YouTube videos always request flash, although YT offers on its website in html5 too ..
But that's all cosmetics!
I love the community, the spirit here, the co-existence of high-profile pros and noobs like me
having you here:
excellent and very nice interview with Sam Mestman (next time, tell him to strip-off his watch/wristband - that constant clickideeclick almost killed me!! :silly:
fcp.co = best site for FCPX users!!
