I started editing this on 10.01 and have just finished the edit on 10.06. I had no serious problems throughout the whole process, the final grade was done via xml to Resolve and the audio post was done in ProTools using X2Pro V1.

Primary camera was Sony F3 with Nanoflash and 2nd unit was Canon 7D, I didn't transcode the 7D footage

The trailer looks fairly pro. Opening seconds we see what value proper writing & acting can bring. Lovely rich narration. Love the opening shot, though I feel the boat disappears a bit too soon, which reminds me it’s an effect. I’d rather see it fade into the wave so they merge instead of looking like 2 separate shots with an overlay. Some of the shots, like the zoom thru the door to the girl on the balcony in the sunset, absolutely gorgeous & filmic. Other parts, look a bit much like video though. (eg; 15 seconds, amazing sky, a bit over the top, next shot regular washed-out sky, color grading on the beach guy shouting "she needs to know!" dolly shot from cell, the boy approaching the window, even to some extent the little girl looking up. This may be pretty subjective, but those shots look kind of flat & very video. Or that guy on the beach I referenced, he's in a confrontation with the other guy with his back to the sea. However, when we see that guy it really looks like a totally different camera, colorizing or treatment, the lighting is different. Yes, I understand one is facing the sunset one isn't, but the color & temperature are also different, so the scene is broken losing continuity & emotional semblance.
Not sure if you cut the trailer too, it has a great wow factor with that music, underwater up into the light finish, etc.
Any idea what the budget was?

The movie was shot in an incredibly short space of time, less than 2 weeks I believe. The DOP was under a lot of pressure and didn't get anywhere near the time he wanted to craft the shots. Budget was high 5 figure I believe and it was me that cut the trailer, had less than a day to do it as well!

Thanks for satisfying my curiosity. Disappointing that the producers would create, facilitate or allow such a pressured environment, especially with that kind of money at stake. Sometimes with permits, contracts or investors the shoot is under great time constraints, but feature editors should never be rushed like TV cutters often are. The art suffers, & therefore the returns. Some Hollywood features take up to a year to edit, then we do test screenings, analyze the feedback, recut, retest, even reshoot scenes, then retest again, etc. Under the circumstances, nice job on the trailer. What's the music?

Very nice trailer. What I noticed, especially in the first half of the trailer, is that there are inconsistencies in the audio timbre, in particular the voice tracks. This makes it difficult for me to follow.
Secondly, some of the shots like the one of the police interview through the bars looks "TV-drama"-like. It lacks that cinematic look. Perhaps the framerate was a bit high for that one?
