Thanks for sharing, Andreas.

Some big important projects are pressing on me, so I’m not going to write a lengthy commentary here. However, a couple points I’ll list...

Can’t say I’ve ever seen a backwards wedding video, or if I have it wasn’t truly memorable. The backwards music video idea isn’t entirely original though, people have been experimenting with it for many years to varying success.

The problem I have with it, is that it’s essentially a gimmick & it’s very difficult to sustain a gimmick for four minutes. Indeed there are a few moments I like, but only one I love. Sliding up the bannister railing, we think “Oh that’s cute.” But it’s the white petals floating upwards that are positively ethereal.

A major hinderance to the conveyance of beauty here, is that people walking backwards is inherently awkward & vexingly ungraceful. The first time I recall ever seeing it done effectively was in a very innovative music video from 1987 - True Faith by New Order

The difference here is that, instead of fat ordinary people stuffed into uncomfortable clothes waddling about like penguins drunk on wine, you’ve got professional dancers, lithe, athletic & graceful. But the main difference, & every filmmaker should take extreme notice here, the effect is used SPARINGLY.

Instead of a gimmick that grows tedious it becomes a rare tantalizing treat we yearn for more of.

That video was wonderfully original, exceptionally executed & won best of awards for two years.

This wedding video? Ehh… not so much. Yes, it does have its moments, & attaching the concept to a popular song gives it a bit more weight.

Take the best & note it, use it elsewhere, adjusting it slightly to make it your own. I would love to see a couple emerge from the church as the white petals float heavenwards in slow motion. But that’s all I need, leave me craving for more. Oh.. even better, the petals are falling, the couple come together to kiss, then as they’re kissing we’re moving in & around them as time slows down, then the petals start rising. Now I’m excited. That would be gorgeous.

On a side note, I did appreciate that the video tries to sort of redeem itself at the end by reversing back to normal for a quick synopsis, but it seems they ran out of time half way.
