First off, have to say the audio track is really slick, the production quality excellent. Nice to have that kind of sound to work with. Your man’s voice is rich & resonant, & the other artists add wonderfully. All in all (& I know that’s not your department), the song is a great foundation to start with. Though audio wise, it begins to lose a bit of its charm near the end as it becomes a bit repetitive & the lyrics lean slightly towards trite. Then is your time to visually arrest this drift. Catchy song, I’d buy the track.
Love your color treatments, the skin tones look gorgeous on your main artist, as does the clothing. Your focus work subtle & powerful, making the low budget modeling far more interesting. The baby is a wonderful touch.
However, I must take exception to the way you chose to feature the female singer. She sounds positively angelic yet you’ve shown her in a very unflattering light. If we learned anything from Millie Vanilli or C&C Music Factory, it’s that beauty accentuates musical tonality. Perhaps since she is an angelic vocal that cyclically returns thru the track, maybe we could have shown her thru clouds or some effected mist. Having her on the exact same plane as your main artist is a subtraction. Another negative for me was not seeing the rapper. Here we have another vocal flavor with a completely different patois & tonal palette. Why not add another visual texture? This would have been a perfect opportunity to increase content, variety & appeal.
One more directorial choice I’m not entirely onboard with, is the choice of the look for the animated cartoon figures. The nose that appears to be a used condom is rather off-putting. Also, the “love” relationship between the ambulance driver & the crash victim isn’t entirely clear. It’s just a bit odd, they’re standing so far apart, & it’s kind of ambiguous.
From a film standpoint, the colorization & focus work make this project for me. There is a kind of tilt shift effect happening at times with the models which I like. It might have been nice to see the baby’s hand pushing one of those toy cars…
A couple of shots near the end, seem like you’re running out of content. His hands doing the heart shaped thing, the shot was held a few beats too long, then we come back to it again, which is pedantic broaching on preachy. Also the profile shot of him near the end, we also get that twice, second time around the interest level is lower.
You’ve definitely displayed artistic & creative use of the medium, impressive quality work.
