As pointed by John Davidson (Magic Feather Inc.) at CreativeCow, Tipard MTS Converter for Mac is free from the AppStore (their website shows a U$S 40 price). Converts MTS media to Apple ProRes (and many other formats). Free alternative to the widely popular ClipWrap .

Bummer, it's not free anymore, $19.99.

Can anyone confirm if this works with files over 4GB? I used a program called smart converter and while it was able to convert the files to .mov, when I tried importing them into FCPX it just ended up crashing the program.

Is this a problem with the converter I used or something with FCPX and large files?
