Today Digieffects announced that they now support Apple's FxPlug technology across their range of plugins. This should bring speed gains in Final Cut Pro by utilising the GPU instead of the CPU.

The video is one of the plugins that Digieffects sells as a standalone option so you don't have to buy a pack of plugins you don't need. Good eye candy too! You will probably know the company for the plugin packs Damage, Delerium, Buena Depth Cue and Freeform

“This is a highly significant development milestone for the team at Digieffects, and a big performance and image quality win for our customers,” said Robert Sharp, president of Digieffects. “Digieffects has always supported Final Cut Pro users in the past, but due to architecture limitations, we couldn’t offer the kind of performance we know they crave. Today this worldwide community of artists can tap into our vast library of VFX plug-ins and experience the levels of performance, image quality and workflow integration they require.”

Apple FxPlug delivers several workflow advantages for Final Cut Pro and Motion users, and help catapult Digieffects into new, broader post production market opportunities. Some advantages include:

  • Faster rendering as FxPlug can utilize the power of the GPU, removing valuable compute cycle burdens from the CPU;
  • Integration of other technologies, such as Open GL;
  • Integration of other Apple technologies, such as Core Image and Quartz Composer;
  • The power of 32-bit float processing.

You can find Digieffects at NAB, booth #SL3327L in the Plugin Pavilion.
