Thanks for the link Peter. I love this effect, & can see it promoting other things besides social media. I've also bookmarked the guy's site.
Thanks for sharing this Peter.
I've DL'd the free template & watched the guy's video… BUT..
Here's the perfect example of why we appreciate clear directions & well formulated tutorials.
When you unpack FinalCutKing's zip file it's a giant mess with ZERO instructions beyond whether you're using Motion 4 or 5.
I'm on Motion 5, so I have both a folder with 4 .motn files, but also another zip file named Motion 5 which unpacks to 3 more .motn files which are duplicates. What is going on? Why the dupes? Do these all go in the Effects templates folder, or Titles (because they're for lower thirds)?
This fiasco helps us to appreciate that much more the considerate posters here at FCP.co who provide installers, clear directions or informative tutorial videos.
Well, we sent him a message thru his site. It's been several days, no response. Maybe he's busy.
I like the effect, but.. like I said, the installation is just a giant mess. No slight against the guy, but if this is the way he teaches (assuming everyone knows as much as him so there's no need for the simple directions), why would I buy his tutorials?
I like the guys that post here, Peter, Alex, Mikey, etc. These guys make a little installer so everything's automatic, or they have simple instructions in plain English, "This goes here."
This is a motion template that needs to be opened in motion 4 or 5 depending which you have. I have Motion 5.........and then saved as a FCPX template if you want to use as a FCPX template. Most of the stuff on fcp.co (this site) has that step already built into all the effects and templates. From what I have seen of Zach King's stuff the step is not built in and must be done manually. Hope this helped.
From my understanding, the duplicate files are there because there are 3 different social media outlets used for this template, Facebook, Twitter and youtube. I guess he was trying to make it convenient. and it won't work without motion so.....
Well, I have just now played around with this, and yes, it is not exactly straight forward. But it does work. Save the motion projects from inside either the Motion 5 (or the Motion 5 2) folder which is created when double clicking the Motion 5 zip file. Motion 5 folder has 4 projects and Motion 5 2 has 3 but they have the same revision and date as the ones in Motion 5 folder....whew !
Now place these motion projects into the usual movies/motion templates/titles folder (for the sake of consistency but they could be placed elsewhere). Start Motion 5 and open a MOTION PROJECT....point to one of these projects and select it.
To make it available in FCPX just publish it along with any parameters you may want to modify....but it sounds like Stupid Raisins is going to do that for us.
Thanks for putting in the time, Dan. Not sure what you mean by Motion "5 2" folder. When I unzip this mess I get a Motion 5 folder & a Motion 4 folder. Oh.. ok, now I see when I further unzip the SECOND Motion 5 zip, it gives me another mess with a Motion 5 2 folder & 3 more files...
Seriously, I'm just about ready to trash this thing. Yes it's a beautiful effect, but anyone that claims to teach tutorials yet puts together a disorganized pile of clutter like this, with zero instructions & won't reply to queries... has lost all my respect.
Sorry if this seems rude to anyone here, but we really are spoiled by the contributors to this forum. They know how to package things with installers & or a simple line of instructions, so no tutorials are necessary. Of, in the cases when they are, they provide those too. Perfect.
