So apparently I had automatic updates on, and this morning I got unexpectedly upgraded to 10.6.

I'm noticing that the audio waveforms on my clips in the timeline are taking FOREVER to load, which wasn't the case previously. Anyone else notice this?

i.e. you make a cut in the timeline (or just zoom in or out) and the waveforms disappear and take 4-5 seconds to reappear.

My guess is that it's likely needing to recache the waveforms. Hopefully once it's done that it will speed back up.

I am having all kinds of problems with audio waveforms in 10.6 when coming from Postlab. I'm kinda panicking about it.

My other, non-Postlab projects aren't having these issues. Really weird, and terrifying.

I have similar problem. Some waveforms load when I open FCPX, but then they dissapear and don't show up again.

I am noticing the initial opening of a Library the audio waveforms take FOREVER!!!!! YIKES!!!!!! But once loaded, they seem stable while I'm editing. But my current projects are pretty simple ones. But yes, something has gone awry with FCP handling audio waveforms.

Update: Audio waveforms are redrawing slowly, but then seem to work fine, as Ben stated, with one major exception for me. .mp4 media just won't draw waveforms at all. Doesn't seem to matter if it's stereo or surround audio, or even how the audio in the .mp4 is encoded. Starting a new thread.

All the footage I'm working with is H.264 on an iMac Pro. What format is the audio in those MP4 files?

It is a MP4 file from my Sony A7R II with 4k 25p. Yesterday all worked fine and now after the update to 10.6 I am having the issue.

OK, having gone through a few different projects now, waveforms in FCP 10.6 are in fact very wacked-out! Taking forever to update, changes in my edits are being slowed down. It's all mp4 which currently is all the footage I work with. Yeah, there's some degradation of wave form processing, at least on Intel Macs. Very frustrating...

It is the audio file from my A7R II. VLC says "Codec twos, 48kHz, 16 Bits".

My H.264 files are from the same source as I've been getting them from. Some are projects updated to 10.6, some are new projects, all are generating wave forms way slower than pre-10.06.

Twos? Maybe two channels. The QT player would tell you. It's probably Linear PCM, but that would be a departure from what others are reporting.

QT: " Audio format: Linear PCM, 16 Bit Big Endian Signed Integer, 48000 Hz"

Now I have tried to work with Proxy files but still the same problem there. After every cut I have to wait about 20-30 seconds until the waveforms appear again...
