What is the best way to give someone the original video files, assuming you have used the card from the camera and that isn't an option. I have them imported through FCPX and I have opened the library container and went to the original media folder to the clips and I just copy them to a thumb drive and off they go. They were shot on a sony fs5 mxf files which FCPX re-wraps to .mov however my older laptop won't play them via quicktime. They will however play on my iMac and my Mac Pro via quicktime so maybe my older MacBook pro, which is on 10.10.5 may need a plug-in? My other computer is a newer MacBook pro running el captain and it won't play the clip through quicktime either.
If this isn't the right way to give someone the clip, what would your advise be.
Sorry if this isn't the right place to ask.

Thanks for the help

So more strangities, I looked at the beginning of the timeline closely and there is a 1:29 gap clip that starts the video on black, it ends on a 1/2 frame, Like smg669 I thought only the audio could go sub frame. So after that all the clips on the main story line are ending on the full frame (but the first clip starts on 1/2 frame) but when a connected clip is added; it is on the 1/2 frame. No way to adjust, "A" tool, "P" tool or even the slip edit tool. So I decided to copy everything except the beginning gap clip and do a new project, I started with a 1920 29.97 prores and pasted the whole project. Everything went in on the correct frames but it put a 1 frame gap clip between every clip on the timeline.
I still can't get a replace edit to go in without the clip jumping up ahead one clip on the timeline.

I might just try and reinstall it. here is the project exported. I can't really see it at a 1/2 frame. www.dropbox.com/s/2dy7papm10e2rrh/god%20...0a%20farmer.mov?dl=0
This was straight 264 export

I first noticed it on the stills, I am doing a keyframe on a cutout of the still image so it is stacked. But that won't line up. I tried to start a new project and same thing with just still images, no video at all. It is starting to be annoying

Has anyone else had their connected clips off by 1/2 frame. I just did an new project and every connected clip is slid down the timeframe by 1/2 frame and I can't get it to line up with the main storyline. Both stills and video when put on the timeline via the "Q" key gets put on 1/2 frame to the right. I am still on El Capitan, 10.11.6
I have tried with snapping on, and off, doesn't seem to matter, I put the playhead on the edit, hit the q and it is off no matter what.
Am I the only one?
and when I do a replace edit, drag a clip over a clip on the timeline, hit replace from start it replaces it and moves it one clip earlier in the timeline.
I need to get the bugs out.

Jonathan, I think they just want it for their archives, they don't have any NLE at all so they are not looking to do anything with it. But they are thinking that these interviews of the people will outlast the people. So they are wanting the whole interview not just the portion we put in the show.

Thanks Tom, my workflow since I am not collaborating with anyone is to import each project I shoot into a separate library on an external HD. So all their assets are in "their" library. I just didn't know if I used the consolidate function if that would copy just the used media or everything. Is there a reason I couldn't just drag and drop the library onto another portable HD?

I recently did a small project for a church celebrating their 100 year anniversary, it was a 20 min video that included a lot of old pics, some old footage and new interviews that I did as well as a voice over and quotes etc. So quiet an array of media. What would be the best way to put everything on a portable HD for them to have as an archive that might be future proof as far as we can tell.
And is there a way to create an archive with all the used and unused assets from FC?
There used to be a dialog box with you consolidated media that allowed you to check a box that would copy the media used and unused but I couldn't find that.
Thanks

Neil, I don't have any clients who request 4k at this time. But I shoot any interviews that I can in 4k so I have the ability to cut whenever I need to. And I think the slog in 4k is really pushing the capabilities of the 8bit 4k. As you know the HD is 10bit bit and it really grades very well. But I have had a bit of trouble if I don't nail the color or if there is mixed lighting with the 4k, it just won't go very far, but if you get it right I think this camera produces images that are really top notch.

DG, I guess my only question is since I have always shot progressive in the past, I just didn't know if I could shoot it 30p, send it to the timeline with drop frame checked, then, send it to compressor and output a ProRes file for example and just change the field order to interlaced, 59i if that would meet their specs?
