I was talking with a client about a project that would include video of a singer. We discussing having on screen lyrics that the viewer could sing along with the video. Viewers will be older adults with some dementia. I thought of the old bouncing ball kind of thing.

I am trying to think this through. I know this would involve using subtitles but animating, in time to music, is throwing me. Anyone ever worked on something like this? Looking for ideas.

Thanks in advance.

Or is there another method either in Compressor or FCP to get all this info? Just thought I'd check before going there.

Check out Larry Jordan’s FCP videos. They do cost some $$ but well worth it. Also, sign up for his free newsletter his quick tips emails. All really good.

I think Tom Wolskey (on these forums) had a training series too, but don’t know if he is doing that still.

Either way, there are some great minds here and I’ve always had lots of wonderful help.

Thanks dgwvideo and FCPX.guru.

DGW: That 10mbps is the UPLOAD speed. 45 for download. Yes, file is 720p h.264.

I have no doubt that it probably is something on my end. I'm on a MBp 2018 2.8 6 core. GTech drives 7200rpm connect via thunderbolt 3. That works just fine of course, when I play the transcoded version. Even plays great with my Masterfile.

I thought maybe there is some special setting with in Compressor that could make this work. I know the above set-up probably is not ideal for being a true video server, but worth a shot.

The file is h.264 File size originally 83 GB (Master) Online size 6 Gb. File plays fine on my desktop. MBp thunderbolt 3 to Tech HDD. That set up is my "server" so no internet involved.

Maybe I'll check in with the Plex people to see if they have any ideas. I have a feeling it's the speed or lack of with my internet???? I don't want to host this on YouTube.

Thanks for that.

Hi all.

I hope this finds you safe, healthy, and not too bored.

I have a have a Pro Res 422 master file 1920x1080 (1280x 720) that I am trying to prep for using with my Plex Media Server. Google if you need more info on that so i don't waste your time explaining in case you already know about that.

I have tried a few different conversions using Compressor. Apple Devices HD, Apple Devices HD Most Compatible both 1080. Both play fine on my end, but when I play through Plex app via internet, playback is choppy at best. If i wait several minutes, the video "Buffers" (probably wrong term) and it will play for several more seconds before choking again. I also tried using the Facebook setting which I believe is a 720 format. That seems to be slightly better.

My internet speed using Speedtest is ~45mbps download and 10mbps upload.

If I can offer any other info, please let me know. Maybe some of you have had better luck than me

Thanks and stay well.

Hi all.

I have a QT master file that I needed to re-edit the title sequence for. This master file consists of several short films. In some previous version of FCP I exported a QT master file that had a chapter marker for each short film. They show up when I open the MF in QT, so I know they are there. How do I get those to show in latest version of FCP? I am positive that there is something I am over looking. Thanks.

This Mic requires 48v phantom. Is that enabled? Sorry if you already knew this.

In order to access the "Expert" calibration mode in the Apple Display calibrator, you need to hold down the Option key when you are presented with the calibrate button.

FWIW- I've long given up on the time and expenses of calibration software/hardware. I don't have anything that is going to "broadcast" and with today's LED displays color accuracy is pretty good. We also have no control over the world of viewers and their hardware set up. I have a two display set up. One I use as full screen preview to judge edits. If I need to grade anything it is done on a calibrated (Apple) LED.

Or use Image Capture in the App folder. There always seems to be some issue or another when importing to FCP, NLE directly from a lot of camera.

Just a wild guess, but could the Retiming editor be used for this?
