Kenneth WedMore Lund created a new topic ' "Online" editing' in the forum. 3 years ago

I would like to try out a new workflow, where some of our projects will "live" in the clouds :)

By that, of course, I mean that I would like to import the recordings into a cloud based catalogue, so I can edit videos based on these files on any of our computers, anywhere.

What solutions would you suggest? Is there, by any chance, some way of only working in proxy, so we don't need to download huge amounts of data "on the go", using often only mobile data 4G / LTE?

Hi!

As you can see here, I've got a multicam session with 3 tracks.

For some reason, the middle track is around 5 minutes delayed and needs to start earlier.

I've tried using the T tool, but I can only move it in the wrong direction.

I've also tried moving the track, but it "snaps back" in place where is was. I cannot move it ahead.

How do I move that track?

Kenneth WedMore Lund created a new topic ' Edit while ingest' in the forum. 3 years ago

Hi!

We specialise in recording and livestreaming all-day conferences . Often, we end up with one massive file with all 6-10 speakers of the day and we then import and edit them i fcpx to be cut in separate videofiler for each speaker.

This workflow MUST be improved, as we spend most of a day doing this editing.

Is There a way for us to ingest directly to FCPX and edit it live?

This way, when the conference ends, we’d be almost finished with the editing, Ready for delivery to the client.

Kenneth WedMore Lund created a new topic ' Sync'n Link vs. FCPX 10.30 built in sync' in the forum. 4 years ago

I often see Sync'n Link (link to appstore) in demoes of syncing clips in FCPx using timecode.

Can someone please tell me what Sync'n Link does (better) than the already built in timecode sync of FCPX 10.3 ?

Kenneth WedMore Lund created a new topic ' Can I offset timecode ?' in the forum. 4 years ago

Hi - yesterday I recorded multicam recordings at a conference with all recordings having real timecode for syncing.

I now see that one camera is offset by 1 sec and 2 frames compared to the other cameras and soundrecorders.

In FCPx, what would be the right way to move the recordings in place - it seems I cannot add the 1sec2f to the timecode and if I manually move the clips, they all "collapse magnetically" and ends up completely out of sync.

If they could make a way to put plugins on the "Master Output" or global audio output that would be super helpful in FCPX.

You can - just compound your audio and add plugins - then it's just like adding bus or master plugins in PT :)

Is there a way of working with hardware mixing control surfaces / faders in FCPx or does the whole "there are no lanes and tracks"-philosophy conflict with that ?

We're looking to add better audio to our films and we find that FCPx is a bit underwhelming in that area.

What do you guys use for more advanced audio editing and especially final mixdown? Pro Tools? Logic? Other ?

If you'd like to tell me about the "round trip", I'd be very gratefull - thanks in advance :)

Hi Stanley, welcome to the forums.

Number 2:
The built-in stabilizer does not work with multicam clips. But this one does, and it's not only much faster but in most cases also much better: coremelt.com/products/lock-and-load-x.html

SUPER TIP!!! Thanks - I bought it right away!

We have the same problem - seems it does export a temporary file for upload and then stops :)

I will surely take a look at Kyno and KeyFlow Pro but just to make sure I get the point:

These two, contrary to Lumberjack, is only for "post" editing of tags/keywords etc. right? Or are they also useable for live tagging during recording of footage ?

I assume that your editing system can handle redraw inside fcpx without lagging and stuttering... But... what if you do the first color balance inside Resolve, then you export full-size prores proxy with "baked-in" correction, then you edit those prores in fcpx, then you send xml to resolve for the "real" grading session relinking the prores to the origin redraw (and avoiding messing with the scale of the clip since you were editing full size prores copies)? This seems to me a good workflow

Sure, but it will take MUCH too long. It would take 6-8 extra on each project just to do this.

Maybe a great workflow for films with bigger budgets, but for corporate videos with a total of 15-25 hours in budget, not so much :)

One of our freelance people actually said "Just transcode optimised versions within FCPX and dele the original footage - then you save the space and can still use the transcoded files if you need to"

Kenneth WedMore Lund created a new topic ' How do we archive in lower res ?' in the forum. 4 years ago

Hi

We record a lot of footage in 4-6K and mostly, it ends up as 1080p at the clients. We just like to shoot in higher res for better cropping, zooming etc.

When a project is done, we'd like to be able to convert all the original footage into 1080p and relinks the files as it would A ) be completely fine for us to "only" have a full HD backup as we almost never changes anything to an existing project and B ) it would save a LOT of space in our archives. Especially as we shoot RED raw.

What would you guys suggest as the easiest way to do this?

Should we run all the files through compressor and just overwrite the existing files - will FCPx then automatically use those versions........ or are there better ways of doing this?

sorry for my complete tech ignorance - but don't you describe exactly what LUTs are made for?

As I understand it, LUTs are fixed, like Instagram filters :)

If we record 5 different locations, the white balance would surely be different. Applying a LUT would just make all these white balances look different than the recording but no equal, like a color-chart-based balancing would :)

We use itunes.apple.com/dk/app/subtitle-edit-pr...065306078?l=da&mt=12 for transcribing and adding subtitles anyway, so to have these texts as tags in the clips keywords, would be great.

Anyone know if this is possible ?

Color Finale has this function. Will it work with REDCODE RAW footage?

Well, in my original post, I wrote:
A third idea would be to use color finale, but as I understand it, the colorchart "trick" needs to the files to be prores and will not work with R3D (nothing shows up when googling it, anyway).
