You could also export via a Compressor preset that you create. Duplicate the preset that you were using, rename it and then go under the VIDEO tab and change the Frame Size to what you'd like. One thing to note is that at towards the bottom of this tab are some resizing options called "Quality". Linear is default and in most cases that's fine. Nearest Neighbor is fastest but it can give you some nasty artifacts if you're not scaling in perfect integers.

I usually just put a Solid Black from the Generators tab on top of everything and apply the fade to that.

cseeman wrote: No. Hmm do you use macOS? This is specific to BigSur and Apple Silicon

Of course I do. But I recall the big thing about Catalina was something to do with iOS. I never downgraded from Mojave to Catalina because Catalina was a big nothing burger. Nothing new to help me with what I do, at least nothing that they were advertising. Instead it breaks compatibility with apps I still use constantly like Quicktime 7. There is no replacement for Quicktime 7 in functionality and ease of use.

cseeman wrote: The ability to run iOS and iPadOS apps directly on the desktop is interesting especially for those of who use such apps in the field.

Interesting. I thought that was the big thing for Catalina.

cseeman wrote: some talk of an eventual FCPX on iPad

That would be interesting, but it'd need a keyboard hookup. Multi-gestures would make odd shortcuts. But who knows, I'd have to try it. I wonder how I would access my terabytes of media files on the iPad. The iPad only had one I/O port, Lighting isn't really very incredible from what I understand. Thunderbolt it isn't. More like a USB 2.

n the SOP session, Anand talks about ASM being able to Boot any macOS that is signed by Apple allowing your Mac to boot older macOS versions both internally and from external drives.

This would be very nice! Definitely holding off on getting a new Mac for now. I was gonna get the new Mac Pro but I think I should wait, as it's already obsolete with many of these new announcements.

I looked at the preview of Big Sur on Apple's site. I'm not sure what this OS brings to the table. I don't care about new emojis in Messenger. It all seemed really vague with nothing new under the hood. Maybe a slight GUI redesign.

Joe Redifer replied to the topic 'UpRez'ing a bitrate' in the forum. 2 months ago

Asking for a specific bitrate on ProRes files seems to be rather odd. He specified ProRes 422HQ and that's what you have (assuming your resolution and frame rate match what they need). When making ProRes files, you don't specify bitrate. They are what they are and the bitrate can vary a bit. Nothing to be concerned with. I would not change your video before hanidng them off.... transcoding them would just result in a slight generation loss at this point and there is nothing to gain by increasing the bit rate.

I can still capture over Firewire (with adapter) on Mohave running the latest FInal Cut. It might be Catalina. Just one more reason not to downgrade to Catalina OOOPS SORRY I mean "upgrade". Have you considered getting an older used Mac of some kind, installing an old Final Cut Pro or Premiere on there? Or maybe just Quicktime 7 Pro? Then have that machine be your capture station and don't let it do anything else, not even connect to the internet.

My FCP still has this problem, usually caused by applying transitions to audio-only files. Bluetooth on or off has no effect.

Yes Optical Flow absolutely helps speed increases. I always notice a difference unless you speed it up by 200% or other round increments like that. Otherwise FCP is just playing the nearest frame which may not be the frame you actually need. Give it a try. HOwever keep in mind you may need to render for smooth playback as I've found that FCP will play back slow motion footage done with optical flow in real time, but not so much fast motion footage with optical flow.

Don't press Command - maybe? But I'm guessing that's not your issue. What kind of funky keyboard/mouse setup do you have? A wheel or a button somewhere may be assign to the zooming. Check your shortcut preferences under File > Commands > Customized. If it's on DEFAULT and not CUSTOMIZE then there could be something that needs to be addressed with your mouse software in the System Preferences.

Once FCP starts getting into 20+ GB or RAM usage, it's best to quit the application and just restart it. It will perform a bit better after you do this as well.

I just learned of this channel via your post. I am blown away by some of the tutorials I've watched and his skill. This is really too bad that he won't be doing any more. I wonder if there was an issue with Apple. Not sure why there would be, but he mentioned that some Fusion tutorials may appear on that channel in the future. So he's only stopping Motion tutorials while I suppose he familiarizes himself with Fusion.

My main problem burning Blu-rays these days is that the Computer rarely ever sees the optical drive as being present. Usually I'm able to get it recognized by the syste, after a series of reboots /unplugging/replugging the drive many times. Not sure if this is an OS issue, a computer issue, or an optical drive issue. Leaning towards the latter. Using an LG drive with a SATA to USB 3 adapter (powered).

Joe Redifer replied to the topic 'Blending higher frame rate footage' in the forum. 3 months ago

Shoot at 60 or 120 and edit and deliver in 30. 24fps is neat but overrated. Most people shoot in 24fps just because they think it makes them a fancy movie director or what have you. 30 achieves a very similar effect and is less of a headache. Assuming you're not planning on a theatrical distribution, of course. If you want motion blur you can go into motion and create a FCP Title with a a 180º shutter and 32 samples (at least) and then drop that on top of all of your footage that you think needs to have more temporal blur. I forget how to create the Motion Blur effect in Motion though... that's the thing with Motion.... it is super easy to forget how everything works whereas After Effects pretty much sticks with you since it is more intuitive. But I digress.
