Martin replied to the topic 'Can you stack multiple fx transitions on to 1 transition?' in the forum. 5 months ago

Thanks but sounds like instead of getting a combined fx look (like a blur plus a glow for example) the clips on top will completely obscure the clips and transition below.

It seems to depend on the transition. I did the stacking thing (had to turn them all into storylines before I could put in a transition) and if I had a lens flare transition on top, it covered everything. If I had a whip transition (from Ripple Training) then the Arrows transition underneath showed through.

Flamewars aren't started over comparisons between Premiere, AVID, Vegas or Edius. It's always FCP (also legacy) that triggers them.

I respectfully disagree. At the heart of arguments like this, it’s always an unannounced Mac v PC argument. That’s why they never give up.

Having said that where would you suggest I post my video?

YouTube?
Creative COW?

This particular Creative COW forum is specifically for debating the finer points of FCP. It was created not long after the first release of FCPX. And it’s still going on. And on. And around. And around.

Did you know FCPX cannot find data within it's own database? FCPX needs to be revamp to act like a search engine of 2020 as opposed to an old database from 1981. My video demonstrates this objectively not subjectively. Perhaps you will watch the video.

This page is for you.

No one should brag about the FCPX database because it has some serious flaws.
Then that's precisely who you shouldn't listen to. It's just noise. Seek the truth from truth-seekers.

If there are improvements to be made to FCPX (and there are), probably better to post that here.

The number 1 reason why I don't use Premiere at home is the subscription model. At work, I am a solo video editor in a big organisation and get to pick what I want, so it makes sense to me to use the same editor at work.

If you want a truly agnostic discussion about the pluses and minuses of each NLE, ask Steve and Mark. Pretty sure they've used everything and are attached to nothing. Zen editing.

Martin replied to the topic 'Using Otter.ai for subtitling?' in the forum. 1 year ago

  1. Upload audio (or video+audio) to Otter
  2. View and fix text.
  3. Download text file
  4. Open text file in text editor and export as UTF-8 (this step may not be needed, I just do this as a precaution)
  5. Upload video to YouTube
  6. When YT has had its way with it, follow these instructions
  7. When YT has again had its way with your video, go to the Timed Text Editor section and download your file.
  8. Upload the text file to a format converter and convert it to SRT (this step may not be needed, I just do this as a precaution)
  9. Download the SRT file
  10. Import into FCPX

If I had a corporate credit card, I'd use Rev in a heartbeat, but the powers-that-be haven't deemed it necessary.

Export it without keying it. The green is all messed up, at least on mine.

I get the same thing.
The Sony S-Log 3/S-Gamut3.Cine (1-1-1) is applied automatically. If I export as ANYTHING ProRes (422, 4444, 4444HQ), the green is completely munged up and is mostly turned to blue, apart from a halo of green around the actor. No keyer has been applied, this is just the original shot with the green screen in the background.

I applied a different LUT (ARRI-C) and it exported perfectly.
Sony LUT applied and exported as ProRes 4444HQ:

Same here. My work Mac (High Sierra) just had the app, my home one I had to find and install it.

Meh. They know the FCPX users have to buy Apple products. Not every editor is a Final Cut user, though, and they have a choice of PC or Mac. This ad is to remind them they do have a choice.

But listing DNxHD/DNxHR as outdated is just wrong. Even if the current implementation was only 32bit.
Since Avid will certainly not drop Mac support for MC and ProTools there will be a 64bit implementation for sure.
Would be interesting to know what´s behind this?!
And hopefully they will release a more in depth list of the affected codecs...

I don't think it's the video file that is the problem, but the encoder/decoder software (which runs inside the MacOS) supplied by the manufacturer needs to be 64-bit to work in the future. If the manufacturer considers something to be a legacy codec not worth updating the encoder for, then that says all you need to know about how they feel about their codec.

Just tried a quick one myself. After altering the image that is sitting on the timeline, if I hover the playhead or move it back and forth, no changes can be seen, but if I hit play, the changes are able to be seen.

Caption Burner via Fx Factory has a lot of nifty features that may save you a lot of mucking around. FCPX 10.4.4 has made some changes to how it handles captions and it can now export an open captioned file ('burned in'), so that may fit your needs, too.
