Thanks for all the well thought out replies! I think I'm going to go with one library and multiple events., Especially now that I've discovered if I keep them all on the same HD they'll just be using links to common material instead of copying. Also add to that having a single source with all meta-data for the whole project included.

Thanks again and have a great holiday,

Richard

I'm currently starting a project that is comprised of three videos. Though they are separate subjects they are all part of the whole and use some common elements. My question: Is it best to start them as separate Library's and just copy materials between if necessary (they will be 'packages') or is it best to use one Library and separate events/Projects.

Thanks,

Richard

Thanks for all the helpful replies! I think for now I'm going to try experimenting with After Effects and Element 3D. I'll be receiving obj files from the client and also have Sketch Up. Also probably give the Ripple After Effects tutorials a try.

Hi Pielle, Thanks for the quick reply. I have included two short clips. the first we did in Motion & FCPX with a 3d rendering. The second clip is an example of the type of animation we would like to do on our upcoming project. Hope that helps.

I am working on two projects that both involve breakthroughs in sustainable energy production. Parts of the technology is already in final prototype to actually in service but other parts are still in the early prototype and pre final design stages.

My challenge is to utilize or create obj or other 3D files and be able to assemble, animate movement and show animated flow paths of fuel materials and resultant energy creation. I am looking for some software solutions that can ultimate work with FCPX and motion. My only criteria is nothing that has a 10 year learning curve or cost a gazillion $$.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks, Richard

Richard Lubash thanks user 'FvH' in the forum message ' Pre ingestion workflow for large amount of footage?'. 5 years ago

Thanks! I've been using FCP since v1 and FCP X since it was released but I apparently haven't warped my head around the full workflow of FCP X. This is the first really large project in FCP X I haven't produced and was just given a HD with about a months worth of footage from an under sea exploration project.

Really looking forward to diving right into the project in FCP rather than having to do a bunch of pre ingestion sorting.

I'm starting a project that involves a huge amount of video clips (terabytes), is there an app that will allow you to browse, pre log, tag and reject footage before ingesting to FCP X?

Richard Lubash created a new topic ' Carbon Copy Cloner vs ChronoSync' in the forum. 6 years ago

I've just changed our backup strategy on one of our machines from Time Machine and Backups for FCPX to just Time Machine for the system files and am thinking of using either ChronoSync or Carbon Copy Cloner plus Backups for FCPX for the production drives. I was wondering if there was any advantage to using Carbon Copy Cloner or ChronoSync. From just playing with their demos for a few days they both seem to have their pluses and minuses but wonder about real world experience backing up the FCPX, Motion, Logic, Aperture and Lightroom files that we us in projects.
